What's The Nearest Stones Landmark To Where You Live?

I live in Margate (Kent, UK), & literally just around the corner from here is The Nayland Rock Hotel, where Mick & Jerry held their wedding celebrations in 1990. I also believe that Mick's parents used to live in Birchington, 3 miles away.

Surprisingly (as far as I can tell) the group never played in Margate (unlike The Beatles who did 12 shows at the nearby Winter Gardens), nor in Ramsgate a few miles from here. So the nearest town they played in is probably Folkestone, about 25 miles from here.

And then there's Dartford Station, about 40 miles away...

Well, I guess if you consider the Louisiana Superdome, where they set an attendance record, a Stones "landmark," then about one mile.

Ulster Hall, Belfast - scene of a notorious riot in July 1964 which saw a show abandoned. A ten minute walk from where I work and about 4 miles from my house.

..and just around the corner from there, Jury's Inn - the site of the old ABC Theatre, where they played here for the last time in 1965 and which is captured on some of the scenes in "Charlie is My Darling".

Eelpie Island, Twickenham

Station Hotel, Richmond

Richmond Athletic Ground

Twickenham Stadium

Richmond Hill - home of Mick, Jerry and of course Woody, at various times.

Ham - home of the late Jaggger senior.

the list is quite long...

Probably the Olympia Theater, in Paris.

Even though I am geographically much closer from the studio they used for the 2002 songs featured on 40 Licks.
Between the studio and the Olympia, there is the Hippodrome de Longchamp, where they played twice in 1995.

The most emblematic place IMO is the Olympia.

I live in St Margarets, which is in between Richmond and Twickenham. The Stones landmarks within a 15 minute walk from my house are:

1. The Station Hotel, Richmond
2. Mick's House on Richmond Hill
3. The Wick
4. Eel Pie Island
5. Richmond Athletic Club
6. Twickenham Stadium

Hmmmm.....depends on your definition of "landmark" and the
significance of the event....

Obviously, they've performed in Milwaukee several times
at three different venues within 10 miles of my house.
And Alpine Valley (East Troy) is a little further away.

The New Barbarians played Milwaukee and caused a significant
riot...when the fans realized that the rest of the Stones were
not going to show up.

And the most obvious & certain landmarks are 90 miles to
the south of Milwaukee in CHICAGO where Chess Studios
and the Checkerboard lounge are located. Not to mention
the Double Door, Buddy Guy's Legends etc...etc...

IORR............but I like it!

Dartford train station, Dartford Grammer, Livingstone Hospital...

When at my parents, it'd be the theatre in Chatham they performed at in 1964.

I live about 90 minutes from Sir Morgan's Cove in Worchester, Ma in the USA where the Cockroaches, aka the Rolling Stones played a warm up surprise gig in August of 1981. Located on Green Street, this famous tune up created hysteria in this town. Over 4000 fans waited outside, only 300 actually got in to this show, and unfortunately I was not one of the 300!!

But the distance is just too hard ta calculate 'cause that roo keeps
moving around all over the bush...sometimes like a hundred miles in a day...TRUE!!

3 hours away from the afore mentioned Superdome in New Orleans. 80,000 in 78 and 87,500 in 81. Landmark yes indeed!

Waldbühne, Berlin.
15th of September 1965, the first gig of the Stones in Berlin, it lasted 25 minutes.
riots broke out and the open-air venue was demolished.

A year or so ago, the local Dartford paper reported that a blue plaque would be put up at Dartford station, to commemorate the meeting between Mick and Keith. Hasn't happened yet.

I live a few kilometers from Messehallen, Sjolyst (Oslo, Norway - the venue doesn't exist anymore), where the stones played two shows in 1965. And a few kilometers more from Valle Hovin, where they have played lots of times since 1990.

I'm in Whitton (western edge of Twickenham) so nearest to home is Twickenham Stadium, closely followed by Eel Pie Island.

I work on Richmond Green so I can see Ronnie Wood's former home in Maids of Honour Row from where I'm sitting at my desk right now. The old Station Hotel is less than five minutes walk away - plus all the places Adrian-L and john lomax already mentioned a bit further on.

It doesn't help - I've never managed to bump into any of the Stones!

30 minutes drive away is Redlands. As kid, early 70s, I lived even closer.

About 10 minutes from Keith's house in Weston. About 10 minutes the other way to where they played the 10 Spot in Port Chester, NY.

The Capitol Theater, where the Stones played Live@The 10 Spot in Port Chester is like 2 miles from the house I grew up in. Best part is that I was at the show.

Ealing Jazz Club, 10 minutes away. (Rather un-fantastic nighclub now called Club Azur - or 'Club are-you-sure?' as the locals like to call it...)

I live a half hour up the coast from ZUMA beach ("I'll give you half of everything I own" ),
and about an hour from Los Angeles...lots of 'landmarks' there.

Not a Stones landmark, bit I live about 5 miles from the Holiday Inn
(now a Days Inn) where Moon drove the car into the pool (supposedly).

Which makes me wonder, I wonder if Townshend and Daltry are allowed back in Holiday Inn's these days.

Although I suspect they are staying in much nicer places these days!

sirdoug, great that you got to go to that show. I was up at college at the time otherwise I would have been at least outside the theater trying to get in. Still seems so strange to think the Stones played in Port Chester.
