Stalinist Purge of Bill?
Posted by: tornandfrayed72 ()

So with all of the good news surfacing regarding Exile and Ladies and Gentlemen, I found this...

Missing Bill?

[new.music.yahoo.com]

Seems really weird to delete him from this one (obscure) album. Who do you think is behind it?

Orwellian revisionism on the Stones' part. They are trying to erase Wyman and Taylor from history. Or at least they were...Maybe they will Photoshop Taylor out of the Exile postcards on the new deluxe reissue.

Excellent, Bernard!

Yes, it is one of the numerous nasty things they have done, excising Bill from history.

I really believe this shouldn't happen to them even though they hadn't been members of the group since 1974 (Taylor) and 1993 (Wyman).

Even when they were IN the band, Taylor and Wyman were largely written out of the story. Neither one of them says a single word in Gimme Shelter, and though it's been a while since I've seen Ladies and Gentlemen, my memory of it is that it's a 90-minute film in which Bill gets exactly ONE closeup, lasting about two seconds.

this week, sharp-eyed Internet message board users pointed out that the album's cover photo is missing an important element of the original photograph: former bassist Bill Wyman.

This week??? Gee, that's not very quick of Yahoo news.

This is funny though:
It's not the first time Bill Wyman has had issues surrounding his existence. In 2002, a lawyer representing the bassist issued a cease-and-desist to a rock journalist named Bill Wyman, claiming it was confusing for a music writer to have the same name as a famous musician. This, of course, leaves aside the fact that Wyman the writer was actually born with his name, while Wyman the musician had his name legally changed from William George Perks in 1963.

I thought Lenin played a Volga guitar with refitted Tesla pups. I am pretty sure it was a lefty model.

Josef didn't play, f-ing poser.

The thing with Wyman, is he gave them incredible service. Even served out a recording/distribution contract. It's sad that there seems to have been a falling out between Billy and the Band.

Don't be deceived by that picture, the closest Lenin and Stalin got to being musical was playing the ballhum.

Though, of course, Bill was in the audience at the last UK show - and recieved a (mini) standing ovation as he walked through the crowd before the band came onstage.

Nothin' slips past THIS guy, eh.

You'd need to get up pretty early if you're going to pull the wool over his eyes...

I actually knew the journalist "Bill Wyman" mentioned. He worked for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for a while and, yes, that was his real name! He should have counter-sued Mr. Perks to prevent him from profiting fron his name!

pot ain't illegal, though. at least not around these parts. a friend of mine was pulled over the other day by the highway patrol - had a lit joint in the ashtray - and the cop asked for it to take a hit off of it. i kid you not.

most websites are terrible about running old stories as if they are new; MSN is the worst I see. I think it is stories that generate clicks get repeated periodically. But this Yahoo story is dated today. The guy's degree in journalism would be annulled; that is if he actually had one.
