Waiting for a girl who's got curlers in her hair
Waiting for a girl she has no money anywhere
We get buses everywhere
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who wears scarves instead of hat
Her zipper's broken down the back
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she gets me into fights
Waiting for a girl we get drunk on Friday nights
She's a sight for sore eyes
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl, she's got stains all down her dress
Waiting for a girl and my feet are getting wet
She ain't come out yet
Waiting for a factory girl

Produced by Jimmy Miller

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Beggars Banquet” LP
(Decca SKL 4955) UK, December 6, 1968

One of my favs of theirs. A truly perfect song in every way. WIth some wonderful surprises. The tabla is beautiful! Great lyrics that fit so well within the BB concept. And their version of it during the Steel Wheels tour was a serendipitous joy.
Keif is really wonderful on acoustic, he slashes those chords with such passion, like a reincarnated hillbilly from the Appalachians.

So Brian is not playing on this song? Dave Mason was a pretty brilliant guitar-player also (besides his mellotron-works on Stones-records).
A huge favorite from Banquette....

Played live in 1990 (of course, it's on Flashpoint), but also in 1997:

So Brian is not playing on this song?

That seems to be the case! Guess it could be him playing mandolin/mellotron part, but Dave Mason has mostly been credited with that part for decades for some reason.

Keith said in a Beggars Banquet radio documentary that Nicky came up with the fiddle part, perhaps he meant the mandolin/mellotron part!?

Great song..But timeonmyside web site claims Brian Jones or Dave Mason played Mellotron...
So it may as well have been Brian!

One of my favorite BB tracks. I've always loved the warm acoustic feel of this album and this song with it's idyllic backing and those "knees much too fat" is a strange but truly great combination, just like the whole "BB concept" which whitem08 pointed at.

Ironically, I wasn't a huge fan of the song until I heard it on Flashpoint! I like when Mick asks Bill what album it's from and then says surprisingly he doesn't know!

hidden away on Beggars almost over shadowed by what came before and after
BUT what a fine fine thing.... And those lyrics paint such a salt of the earth image...Only THE STONES

More than once I've thought of it as my favorite Beggars' Banquet song. Usually I come to my senses, but sometimes not for weeks at a stretch!

Love the live version too.

People love this song, it's great, but if it was released on A Bigger Bang or from 1989 on people would say it sucked.

This is another one of those inspired Stones mismatches - musically it's from the same US country-blues roots as "Prodigal Son", but the lyrics come straight out of the 1930's England of Gracie Fields and George Formby. I wonder if the Factory Girl started out as a joke, but the finished result is wonderful. I wish the Stones did more of this acoustic stuff.

As others have said, simply flawless. Such a gorgeous twang to this one, and those wonderful lyrics match the sound perfectly. And the production .. a shining example of Mr Jimmy's genius.

Music doesn't get better than this.
