Are you referring to the screening in NY? I heard that the full MSG show was viewed, many people at the Shidoobee site where there but wouldn't talk much about it.

Gimme Shelter was only available in Europe as an import, zone 1 DVD from USA.
So, the Warner release next summer is a premiere...for a zone 2 !
Nothing more.

The audio commentary by the director is the only thing that strikes me as possibly new & I may have just forgotten that it was on the Criterion release!

I guess they were asked to be hush hush about it at the viewing but some people on that board pretty much all but said it was almost the full show and the quality and sound was pretty good.. Couldn't believe it when I read that but at least its good to know the tapes exist.

Hopefully this will be the real deal with all the extra footage but the description sure sounds like the Criterion Collection DVD that has been out for eight years.

This story is much ado about nothing it sounds like. I think they don't count the Criterion Collection as an official release by the studio (Warner) so this is the first official DVD release from WARNERS... bunch of misleading bullshit.....

The only reason why I don't already own this: the suggested retail price for this DVD since it release in Canada (Criterion) has been 52.99.

Netflix. Copy it. It is expensive to buy - considerably. If it was a 3 disc box set DVD then yeah. But not a single movie.
Eh - I recorded it to audio cassette back in the day and would play it as loud as possible. I loved the lazy dragged out Under My Thumb. I loved how JJF was so good and different, especially Mick sing/shouting Well it's alright, it's alright instead of the it's awwwwwwllllllllllriiiiiiiggggghhhhhtttttt.........
And the thundering Gimme Shelter.
And of course the excellent version of Satisfaction.

There is going to be another similar mysterious Shidoobee gathering in Sept in NYC at the Maysles Institute for a similar, but not exactly identical, purpose.
My guess is that this Warner's August release is built to capitalize on the success of Shine A Light, whether it has more new footage or not.
