....the film however, in very limited release did $1.8 million in sales over the weekend in the USA. Not enough to get it in the top 10 but considered "fair" by industry standards; especially when considering the numbers of the #1 ($15.1M) and #2($13.4M) and #10 ($2.7M) movies.

When I bought the soundtrack this weekend, it was the first time I had bought a CD in almost 3 years. Guess what the last CD I bought was?

The album will chart between #10 and #15 in the U.S with about 35,000 copies sold. A #10 debut would be awesome for a live album.

The surprise is coming from U.K, the album is on track to chart VERY WELL, more tomorrow.

Released April 1, on April 2 went to one of only two best buys on Oahu, sold out already of the two CD set, only 3 of the single CD, so my guess is it is doing better then expected.

They (Billboard) include ALL the sales, from retail, i-tunes, internet sites, everything. About 98% of the U.S sales are represented on Billboard's chart.

The album's HIGH sales are from Best Buy, about 60/65% of the total is there.

Respectable number for a concert/documentary movie. Don't forget the movie will make more money from dvd sales/tv rights etc.. It's not only theater numbers they are counting on and although I'm sure it is well made it couldn't have cost that much to make. It's not like filming a movie like Jurassic Park where it costs a hundred million to make. The only dinosaurs in this movie are The Stones lol.

When I went to Best Buy I almost couldn't find it. It was in a terrible place. I just don't get that.

Georgelicks:

How good is "VERY WELL"?

Are you hinting at the Stones entering the charts at #1 in the UK?

No #1, but a Top 10 placement is sure.
I'm expecting Music Week's midweeks sales.

My local TESCOs have it shelved at no. 5 today - whereas HMV just have it on the new release display and not on the charts at all.

Lol..I'll live..although due to the magic of downloading i'd heard a few from it before the release date.

usually we get our releases the day before the US, but this time the US got it a week early - probably because the movie opened there a week before it did here.

More pissed off at the fact I havent seen the film yet. I'm not bothered about a one week wait for another live CD.

Courteeners to challenge for albums number one
14:57 | Tuesday April 8, 2008

The Courteeners face a fight for the number one slot with their debut album St Jude (A&M).

The album shifted almost 9,000 copies on its first day of release yesterday (Monday), putting it marginally ahead of Duffy’s Rockferry in an A&M one-two.

The Rolling Stones and James also look on course to score top ten hits this Sunday, with Shine A Light OST (Polydor) and Hey Ma (Mercury) respectively.

Albums

1 Courteeners
2 Duffy
3 REM
4 Rolling Stones
5 Leona Lewis

Top 10
James

I was at Circuit City, Target and BestBuy last week when it came it out and in my area it was gone from all of them practically, but then so was the limited edition of the new REM album, which also is great!!!

Gazza,

re: soundtrack...you should've told me. I would've bought an extra on 4/1
and shipped it to you. (seriously...the double disk was only $12)
But at least you can get it USA iTunes or listen other places for free..right?

re: film....when will it be showing (if at all) in your hometown (Ireland)?
Again..there's plenty of clips on the internet...but I empathize.

re: R Stones releases etc...has living in Ireland ever been advantageous
to you? Any RS releases before US & other parts of UK?

* one last thing...here in Milwaukee USA...as you probably know, Harley
Davidson has hired Bruce Springsteen to perform for its anniversary
this SUmmer...tix to be sold on Harley's website on 4/5...website crashed
after a few minutes (high volume)....Harley will try again 4/14.

How often does Bruce get to Ireland?

IORR............but I like it!

A top 10 debut in the U.K. is very impressive.

Lets hope "Shine a Light" can find it's way into the top ten in the U.S. as well.

UK Midweek sales update:

It seems that a UK Top 5 debut for Shine A Light is almost sure.

I don't believe Billboard will have SHINE A LIGHT CD sales until next week.

Shine a light sold 32,242 copies in the US.
And will be charted #12.

OUCH!!!

Re: Shine A Light Soundtrack Sales

Its pretty much expected that the first week's sales and chart position for any major act would be high (likewise with a movie)...its the record's staying power in the charts which are a more effective barometer.

#12 US and top 5 UK for a Stones live album is pretty good compared to other similar projects in recent years. Its helped by the fact that these type of releases dont tend to get as much publicity as this has, thanks to the movie.

Plus, theres 2 or 3 big-selling albums ahead of them in the UK, so certainly no mean feat.

So it just goes to show that considering the amount of hype flying around the past month or so nothing means it will go #1. Perhaps in the 1970s and 80s it would have.
I was just figuring the record would be a #1.

Additional info from UK:

ALBUMS

1 Duffy (12.6k)
2 Courteeners (11.9k)
3 Rolling Stones (10.2k)
4 REM
5 Leona Lewis

Monday/Tuesday sales.

Stones' numbers are impressive, and it's a live album!

A live album? No way. They're 'minor' releases. When was the last time a live album by anyone topped the charts?

..and if they cant get to #1 with a studio album on the back of a tour, theyre hardly going to have a similar placing with a live record whose simultaneous promotion is a film which will have a pretty limited run.
