Tal Wilkenfeld. she was great. no idea where she went. looks like drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is gone too, which is a shame. he's a fantastic player.

Tal Wilkenfeld, Tal's headlining with her own band (including Vinnie Colaiuta and Oz Noy) for WesFest later this month in LA (2/28?)

I wonder what happened to Beck's other bass player? Tal something. She was great.

Not sure what she's up to right now but her full name is Tal Wilkenfield. Not only a great technical player but I also love the fact that she's got such a geart feel for the groove and an obvious love of playing. She just looks like she's having fun.

Peace,

Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and the Way of the Guitar: The New Issue of Rolling
Stone
2/17/10, 9:00 am EST

Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton have never done a joint interview - until now. On
the eve of their historic first-ever co-headlining tour, Rolling Stone's
David Fricke sits in with the two guitar legends as they discuss old
rivalries, blues heroes and the secrets of their craft in our new issue, on
sale at newsstands today.

Check out all of Rolling Stone's ultimate guitar coverage and join the
debate: who's the best of all time?

The pair chat about their experiences with Jimi Hendrix, possible set lists
for their upcoming shows (compositions by Charles Mingus and Albert Collins
are on the table) and the intricacies of each other's technique (Beck cites
Clapton's timing and phrasing; Clapton praises Beck's "multitasking"
right-hand work). They also explain why it took four decades for their
current team-up. "We were all trying to be big bananas," Beck says. "Except
I didn't have the luxury of the hit songs Eric's got." Clapton tells Fricke
they couldn't have collaborated in the Sixties or Seventies for one major
reason: "Because we were enemies, basically."

The pair don't shy away from frank talk about the cause of their rift -
their relationship to the Yardbirds, the psychedelic R&B band that featured
Clapton, Beck and Jimmy Page on lead guitar (in that order). Clapton admits
he expected the band to collapse without him, and was surprised when they
became more successful. "I wanted to be as critical of him as I could," he
says. "It hurt me bad because I could see they were getting, with Jeff, at
something beyond what I was capable of." Beck stuns Clapton by insisting
that the band revered Eric's playing: "They were in awe."

Clapton also reveals he has a new album in the works, possibly titled
Whiplash - and the diverse covers project may become a double LP. "I covered
anything I ever longed to do," he says. For more on the project, plus Beck's
comments on the darker moments of his career and Clapton's "unfinished
business" with Blind Faith, check out the full story in the new issue. Plus,
read about Clapton's 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival.

Yeah, sounds like it could be a boring show - that's why I passed for NYC

Maybe you need to see Lady Ga Ga, more of your style!

I Went to the show last night.

Musically it was very good. Really liked the songs Beck did that the orchestra backed him on. In fact I would like to see Beck leave the band behind and do some shows with just an orchestra backing him.

EC's set was good too with the highlight for me being Sheriff. Beck was on fire though for the most part all night long. I'm not sure if Clapton was sick or not but he seemed a bit off. Clapton was drinking something all night and in the joint set with Beck, EC ran out of drink and held his empty glass high towards the back of the stage so someone could see he was out and then a new drink was brought for him.

The MSG crowds though are totally ridiculous. I mean if you want to get shit faced drunk why not just stay home. It's much easier to get your drinks and take a leak at home as opposed to MSG.

1cdog...I was there too. I agree, Clapton was off, Beck great.

On the audience, I was grateful that a man in my row asked some
girls behind us if they would cut the chatter.

Seems like that happens everywhere these days. Not just MSG. But glad you liked the show Angee.

I’m disappointed to read that Clapton was ‘off’, here. He performed wonderfully in London last weekend. He’s a famous teetotaller of course, so perhaps the drink 1cdog is refereeing to was combat whatever his problems he may have been experiencing on the night.

Personally, I’m just a little peeved that I didn’t bother to get tickets for his upcoming show with Steve Winwood at Wembley Arena. eye rolling smiley

Jeff can go sleevless and pose. He's had the same haircut since '67! The imprtant thing is that he never disappoints. I've seen Jeff a dozen times or more with several different backup bands and he is always looking to do something new and connects. I passed on the Garden ( and Clapton) to wait for the smaller venues and expanded setlist. Would have liked to see him with the orchestra. I don't think someone of Jeff's stature can afford an orchestra for a full tour. ELP tried that in the 70's and then had to tour a year and half without orchestra to pay the debts and make a little money.

Will Beck do an extended tour, more dates? I just read the Rolling Stone article, it was great! I was under the impression that Beck & Clapton played together, at least for a portion of the show...is this not true? Do they only do individual sets?

Beck opens the show with a bass, keyboard and drummer, and then an orchestra plays on some of his songs. Maybe 8 or 9 songs - I'm not sure. A 50-55 minute set or so.

A 15 minute break or so. Then Clapton comes on with his band and does around 9 songs. Again around 50 or 55 minute set.

At the end of EC's set Jeff Beck comes back onstage and joins EC and his band for another 8 or 9 song 50 minute set.

Show started right at 8 PM and was over around 11 PM.

Was Jeff only on stage for songs that he played lead?

Was this Eric's or Jeff's band?

My 2cents on MSG show Fri2-19
Beck: brilliant, dazzling, masterful, evocative, powerful, moving, beautiful, loved the orchestra with "Day In The Life", and the finale which I couldnt recognize was an aria by Puccini...imo his music defies all genres and is everything, blues, rock, jazz, fusion, operatic, symphonic, grand
EC:predictable and borrriinngggg..
set came alive when JB joined, seems like EC found himself a hot lead guitar player..
the finale Crossroads, my buddy said it was an insult to the crowd...
imo a very overpriced gig
BUT, have tix to see JB in a small joint in Kingston NY for $70 in June.
See you there

Thanks a lot ICDOG and SWEETCHARMEDLIFE!! Wow, that looks like an amazing show. Clapton's solo set looks rather tame and familiar. I've seen him do most of those tunes myself. Very sad that I came out of my stupor the day AFTER they played MSG.... it looks like I missed out on the Northeast leg of the tour.

Sometime ago, Bigozine had also upped two Jeff Beck shows from Saitama,
21.02.09 and 22.02.09.
The version of "A Day In the Life" from the first night is simply incredible!

Yes, after this show I look forward to any opportunity to see Jeff Beck
in another venue. I don't see that as a possibility so far this year so
will appreciate any reports!
