Jagger's guitar playing in SAL's Some Girls

Here's a question to the guitar players on the board..

I think Jagger's guitar intro and playing on Some Girls in SAL is pretty cool. Is that open g tuning and what cords is it? It looks pretty simple.... just barring along all strings, or?

With all the SAL bashing going around, I do think there were quite a few highlights in SAL, this being one of them.....

Thanks,

It's in open G indeed. The song is just A and D and E D on the "give me all your money" part

Cheers,
Wuudy

I agree - probably the best guitar playing in the whole film, although that's not saying much really.

ok, that's a little harsh.

Maybe.

The best sounding guitar playing for sure. When skipping through this CD and arriving at Some Girls I thought 'finally a good sounding and well played riff'. Then I found out Jagger was playing it...

LOL! I think Ronnie is doing far more interesting things ie on Faraway Eyes than Jagger's strumming on SG.

Mick Jagger is currently the Stones best guitar player. Deal with it, everybody smiling smiley

Damn fine slide playing on You Got The Silver.
That's not easy to do without sounding like you suck badly.

I love the SG riff too.

Best guitar playing in the movie?
Factory Girl or Only Found Out Yesterday

normally it wouldn't - but considering the competition for the title in this case....hmmm....

Well, it's hardly the work of a guitar god, but I will say that Mick has proven he's the band's only solid rhythm player.

Mick certainly can be solid - if they'd only keep him up in the mix.

I can see why they kept him down in the mix in the past - watch him on the Steel Wheels or Voodoo tours and he is just wildly slashing away (on the electric at least), with what looks like no sense of rhythm. But in this century it seems like he's really buckled down on his playing and doesn't have as much trouble playing a solid electric rhythm and singing at the same time. Hell, Keith can't seem to play a solid rhythm when he's NOT singing much less when he is.

Yeah, you're right. That and he usually wags it off to be able to hold the mic in one hand and wave the other hand around...

He played pretty good on Sad Sad Sad didn't he? I thought he did (I can't listen to Rock And A Hard Place).

what a difference a century or millenium makes, eh?

As I usually love Keiths guitarwork, it's painful to see and hear how he struggles here. He just doesn't seem to be able to play what he wants to.

Allthough I really like that guitarpart from Jagger in Some Girls (power!), I miss some of the original effectsound done on the studio version.

that first became glaringly evident to me early on the 2002 tour - watching him up close - knowing what he was "reaching for" but simply couldn't pull off - basic "keith stuff" that came so easily to him just 3 years prior. it's been sad to watch it spiral downward ever since...

I know. Really sad. Still got great memories of his playing on the B2B tour.
