supposably he cut a few more new vocals from that era of songs for the ne'er-to-be released rumor or album, called Memory Hotel...songs like Fiji Jim, for instance....

I've often wondered if the Fiji Jim rumor is true. How did that rumor start? Any reliable sources? Did someone mention it in an interview or something?
How great would it be to hear that one re-done like So Young... can't even begin to imagine!

In an interview with (if I recall it right) a german guitar player magazine Chris Kimsey stated that the Stones instructed him to go through the archives and find releasable material for the Voodoo Lounge project, if not for the album, at least for use as singles b-sides. He said that he found "a handful of tracks" and specifically mentioned So Young, Fiji Jim, Shame Shame Shame, We Had It All, Lets Go Steady. He mentioned that for a couple of tracks, Jagger had to record new vocals because the original recordings had only guide vocals. He regretted that only So Young was used because he thought that the tracks he found were all "pretty good". So, yes, its pretty definitive that some archives tracks were worked on (and finished?) during the Voodoo Lounge sessions, and this unreleased Memory Hotel album project most probably would have included them - amongst more recent outtakes.

Ah ha! Pretty funny that the 'forward looking' Jagger would want to work on old recordings!

Oh I'm aware of all of that. But to go from recordings done in 1977-79 and work on them in 1994? It's just a hilariously huge difference.

I'm curious about So Young. He did a new vocal for it during the Voodoo sessions? For certain? The big question there is, or maybe several of 'em - why that song? Why then? Why not something else? Was it actually done then? Are there more?
ETC...
