I'd rather see even Bon Jovi have the Christmas number 1 than anything to do with Simon Cowell.

Fantastic. First time I've bought a single in years, and a Christmas single in decades. Well done RATM, £70k donated to Shelter and a free UK concert next year to boot.

I bought it too, even though I think the song's ridiculous and Rage are crap. Better than ANY X Factor puppet though.

Leonard Cohen wrote Hallelujah. It's on his album Various Positions. I prefer it to the Buckley version. John Cale did a cracking cover of it for the Basquiat soundtrack.

As for the X factor massacre of it last year - it was an absolute S.T.I.N.K.E.R. But, it did make Leonard Cohen some much needed money, so it wasn't all bad.

This is the first time in about eight or nine years that a reality show 'winner' hasn't had an Xmas No 1. Didn't it all start with the wretched Hearsay from Popstars?
