Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name" is this year's UK Christmas no.1 thanks to an internet campaign to stop the Simon Cowell machine.

Great fun. I even bought RATM to help it on its way. Imagine being a fly on the wall with Cowell???

I'd rather see even Bon Jovi have the Christmas number 1 than anything to do with Simon Cowell.

Fantastic. First time I've bought a single in years, and a Christmas single in decades. Well done RATM, £70k donated to Shelter and a free UK concert next year to boot.

Aren't both records on a Sony label? Ie the much hyped 'battle' sells more records for the same beneficiary.

Exactly. Same thing happened last year with the release of Buckley's 'Hallelujah'.

The stupid, irony of the thing is that RATM now have an Xmas No1 in a perverse way thanks to....The X-Factor! This world is full of idiots. drinking smiley

The rebel planet hits back. The best fcuking news news I've heard in a long time. A defeat for the powers of darkness and a victory for real music. The people have the power.

I bought it too, even though I think the song's ridiculous and Rage are crap. Better than ANY X Factor puppet though.

Leonard Cohen wrote Hallelujah. It's on his album Various Positions. I prefer it to the Buckley version. John Cale did a cracking cover of it for the Basquiat soundtrack.

As for the X factor massacre of it last year - it was an absolute S.T.I.N.K.E.R. But, it did make Leonard Cohen some much needed money, so it wasn't all bad.

This is the first time in about eight or nine years that a reality show 'winner' hasn't had an Xmas No 1. Didn't it all start with the wretched Hearsay from Popstars?

How dare Cowell presume to have a manopoly on the sacred Xmas Number ONe spot.
