Just My Imagination: A hypothetical 2007 Euro tour schedule
Posted by: beast of burgk ()

I think a tour schedule like that would really make sense, but it is just hypothetical (!), except from some detailed rumours:

- May 20: Budapest, Hungary
- May 22: Bucharest, Romania (free concert, rumoured without date) (*)
- May 25: Chorzow, Poland (rumoured without date)
- May 28: St. Petersburg, Russia (*)
- May 30: Dresden, Germany (*)
- June 2: Brno, Czech Republic (*)
- June 5: Karlsruhe, Germany (negotiations were rumoured in summer) (*)
- June 8: Erfurt, Germany (rumoured) (*)
- June 11: Bremen, Germany
- June 13: Bochum, Germany (*)
- June 16: Paris, France (rumoured)
- June 18: Bordeaux, France (*)
- June 21: Barcelona, Spain (rumoured without date)
- June 23: Almeria, Spain (rumoured without date) (*)
- June 26: Madrid, Spain
- June 28: Liverpool, England, UK
- June 30: London, England, UK (hall concert, not Wembley stadium!)
- July 2: London, England, UK
- July 6: Rome, Italy
- July 9: Zagreb, Croatia (rumoured)
- July 12: Athens, Greece
- July 14: Kiew, Ucraine (*)
- July 17: Berne, Switzerland
- July 20: Rostock, Germany (*)
- July 22: Gothenburg, Sweden
- July 24: Trondheim, Norway (*)
- July 27: Aberdeen, Scotland, UK
- July 29, 31: Rotterdam, Netherlands
- August 2: Arnhem, Netherlands (*)
- August 5: Brussels, Belgium (rumoured?)
- August 7: Lyon, France
- July 10: Lisbon, Portugal

(*) - never visited before

I think that would be a really “fair” (mainly) stadium tour, with most shows (nearly) sold out. What do you think?

I think Mick's voice needs longer gaps than that between shows these days.

Why is Portugal the closing show? Not being sarcastic, just curious...

I don't know, but somewhere I had to get them to stop ;-) Why not finish in Southwest Europe, where the fans are enthusiastic and did not get their tour start in 2006...

the schedule's too crowded - they have a week off after every month.
and are you sure it zigzags around enough? :E

Six shows in Germany?

It's a suggestion. That means you could replace some dates, take some out and make the tour two weeks longer instead etc. "My" tour will never happen, but many towns will appear on the official schedule I think. It could go pretty far in this direction.

Why not? Germany is by far the main Stones market in Europe, no. 2 (!) in the world. We had 13 (!) shows in 1998/99 for instance. If you play in East Germany and avoid the overplayed cities of Berlin and Leipzig, three packed shows are possible I truly believe.

I hope you are right.
But if they are doing a brief follow-up tour of about 20 shows (as several reports indicate), I wouldn't think that more than 4 of them would be in Germany.

yeah, i am cognizant, Beast of Burgk - just thought the "game" was to make up a possible schedule,
which would mean putting in a week's break after every month. but ... never mind! carry on

Why all this sarcasm? The real tour will go the direction of "my" hypothetical schedule, you'll see.

5-6 shows in Germany are much more realistic than ONE in Iceland or Scotland or Kiew I think. But I would not mind if it all would happen. Not to be misunderstood, I'm not Mr Cohl, but I tried my best the make up a hypothetical schedule that really makes sense. But you're right, Bochum and Rostock might not happen if the other four shows would sell badly.

The first six shows in former Eastern Europe?
I think they'll kick off the tour in some more "central" place.

I don't think so, sorry. All rumours let believe that it will start in the East (Bucharest: late spring; Chorzow: May/ early June; Erfurt: June 8). The "more central places" in europe were partly already played in 2006 and sometimes a "disaster" if you want to speak of ticket sales (Vienna, Munich, Berlin with 3/4 sold out stadiums). Now the band goes to places where they are really welcome, because they've never/seldom been in that region. I think that's the mean concept of that tour, just like the Fall Tour 06 in North America.

what sarcasm?! i'm just pointing out that they take a week off after each month,
so if you want it to be more like a possible schedule you should shift your dates a bit
to take that into account. if you don't want to do that, that's fine with me too, of course -
i understand it's just hypothetical. good night now

Oh well, sorry, I misunderstood your point of view. I (almost) totally agree. I though a show every 2-3 nights would give them enough time to recover ;-) Nice you like my idea.

for the record: the break after each month is at least as much for the crew
as it is for the band.

ABERDEEN?? When was the last time they played there? 1966?

1982 actually - a theatre show as a warm-up to open the European tour. They played successive nights in theatres in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh as they couldnt get a licence for a stadium show in Scotland.

The idea of them playing Aberdeen as their only Scottish city and missing out central Scotland which is about 200 miles away and which is where the majority of the population live is a non starter.

And a European tour will open in a 'prominent' and high profile city for publicity reasons - which would rule out pretty much all of eastern Europe, and certainly Budapest.

If the Stones are doing a comparatively brief European tour, they are NOT going to play several shows in markets with weaker economies such as those in the former Eastern Bloc because they will be concerned primarily with maximising their profits. Forget about them playing 5 or 6 shows there. Especially if this 'free show in Bucharest' rumour has any credibility. Something like that happening will reduce the likelihood of other shows in that area even further.

Same system as they did in South America. Big fan base, but not enough money for them to bother staying there for more than a few days, so they play one MASSIVE free show which they get paid a shitload for doing, and then they can go off and play somewhere more financially lucrative instead.

3 Shows in France is doable in theory. They can sell that out easily unless the stages are overcrowded with other great acts ( Who, U2, Coldplay, Muse....). But announcement is also to be done before those of said groups.

Sound fair enuff... Perhaps a little too tight on the dates?

In every Euro Tour they came to Switzerland (except the 1999 one). But I haven't heard of rumours for Switzerland yet. Berne would be great, last time they played there was 1973. There is the new Stade de Suisse, which should hold about 35'000 people.

Bochum in Germany is absolutely unlikely to see a stones show.
No top act has ever played there as far as I can remember. Furthermore, there are a lot of great venues (Westfalenhalle Dortmund, Arena Oberhausen, The Kölnarena in Cologne etc...) or stadiums (Arena auf Schalke in Gelsenkirchen, LTU-Arena in Dusseldorf etc..) or concert sites close by.
My guess is that they are going to play at the LTU-Arena in Dusseldorf (where Depeche Mode and Madonna played last year and Genesis will play this year).
There might be one more show in the North (maybe on a field somewhere in nowhere land between Hamburg, Bremen and Hannover (Scheesel?) and another show in the south, maybe in Nürnberg (Nuremberg).
Dusseldorf might be a good choice as it is very close to the Dutch border (which, in my experience, is always good for a concert audience-wise...).

It was recently mentioned in a German newspaper that the Stones were negotiating with the LTU Arena in Düsseldorf.

Why not, no world cup this year and the economy is improving, people are spending much more money.

This schedule seems too big.
The rumors are a 25-date tour approx.

Bordeaux is a regular rumour since 2003 in france, but the stadium seems to be a bit too small.
Lyon and Paris will probably take place.
IMO you planned too many shows in Germany
