Travel between Oporto and Valladolid??
Posted by: Beast ()
Date: August 2, 2006 18:09

Does anyone know if there's a direct train or bus from Oporto to Valladolid? From what I understand, there isn't. In which case, what's the best way of getting between the two places? Thanks!

That's such a marvellous country with nice people that the only answer is : Hitchhike ( all the way...)

Hi Beast.

You´ ve got a bus from Oporto to Salamanca at 10:00 on august the 13th.
Then, it will be easy to take a bus from Salamanca to Valladolid.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. The second route suggested seems to be more direct. Jon - do you happen to know the name of the bus company?

In Portugal try something like Rodoviaria nacional
[www.rede-expressos.pt]
or Eva transportes
[www.eva-bus.net]

Thanks, Riffbuk. I've just tried them but they only seem to have routes within Portugal... But we'll get there eventually somehow!

I looked at trains and could not do it without confusing routing and hours of travel time , buses weren't any better. I thought about a rental car sinec teh distance was not that great, but the fee to drop the car off ian differnt countyr was ridiculous.

I ended up biting the bullet and getting on a TAP ( Air Postugal ) set of flights.

Thanks, Jon. I tried that site but it only gives information for inside Portugal. I found the bus to Salamanca via a different site but no bus from Salamanca to Valladolid!

Kahoosier - what's your route from Oporto to Valladolid??

[www.alsa.es] for buses from Oporto to Salamanca
[www.auto-res.net] for buses from Salamanca to Valladolid
[www.renfe.es] for trains from Salamanca to Valladolid

Hey Beast, the flights are convoluted and not the cheapest, but it was cheaper tha a sinlge guy renting a car and dropping it off in a different country...at least when I bought. Ideally a bunch of us should have networked and split the cost of a car. But the flights go like this:

Sun, Aug 13 06:10 AM to
06:55 AM Porto Portugal, Portugal (OPO) to
Lisbon, Portugal (LIS)
0hrs 45min - nonstop Tap Air Portugal Flight 818

Stop - Change planes in Lisbon, Portugal (LIS)
Connection Time: 1 hr 5 min

Sun, Aug 13 08:00 AM to
10:40 AM Lisbon, Portugal (LIS) to
Barcelona, Spain (BCN)
1hr 40min - nonstop Tap Air Portugal Flight 740

Stop - Change planes in Barcelona, Spain (BCN)
Connection Time: 0 hrs 45 min

Sun, Aug 13 11:25 AM to
01:10 PM Barcelona, Spain (BCN) to
Valladolio, Spain (VLL)
1hr 45min - nonstop Iberia Flight 8662

The stadium is north east of the city. Outside the center. No hotels nearby. Stay in the center. Also I noticed there are few trains and buses on Sunday. The easiest is probably Vigo to Madrid flight or Lisbon to Madrid and the car from there. It's not an easy travel but a car helps a lot. Valladolid is easier to access from Madrid than Porto.

I think there's a bus from Porto to Salamanca on Sunday at 1000 (arrive at 1700)and from Salamanca to Valladolid at 1800 (arrive 1930).

see www.alsa.es (Oporto-Salamanca)
www.auto-res.net (Salamanca-Valladolid)

Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal, by the way.

I don't know how accurate it is, but you can check trains here:

[reiseauskunft.bahn.de]

The options I found don't compare that favourably with the bus - the journey is either 11 hours with two changes or 7.25 hours with one change but leaving at 1715 and arriving at 0130 on Monday morning.

Kahoosier's Oporto-Lisbon flight appears to be full.

If anyone finds any better options, please let us know!
