Beggars versus Bleed
Posted by: NICOS ()

36 years I listen to these records and still can not make up my mind what the best one is.

We got that dark bluesy production of Beggars, that never get's boring, everytime I listen it's sound new or I hear new things, I love all the songs.
Best song Stray Cat Blues or Jigsaw Puzzle

And then that clear production of Bleed, I love them all too.
Best song Gimmi Shelter.

But I only can choose one, if they send to an Island.

brought the Bleed to the island.......and hid the banquet with the rest of the buried treasure

Nope I can't choose between these two.

Well if I ABSOLUTELY had to...

I guess since I don't really like YCAGWYW that much, I'm going to have to say BB since I like every song on that one.

It would kill me to never hear GS or MM ever again though as those two are in my top 5 favorite songs.

I say Let It Bleed.

Beggars Banquet isn't raunchy enough for me - I think the Stones need to be raunchy.
I compare it to the third Velvet Underground album. Somebody stole all of the Velvets' equipment and they had to record a record without feedback (great @#$%& album, by the way).
Beggars is brilliant, but (other than Jigsaw & Stray Cat) isn't nearly as nasty as Let It Bleed.

I think Let It Bleed is almost a perfect rock record.

Beggars & Bleed are actually a double album -
far be it from me to ever split 'em up

Keith, be well

I'd have to say that's how I feel, good analogy, mate.

Hard thread, Nico.
I'll go for Let It Bleed.......
but just after writing that; I'll put on Beggars Banquet 'cos I feel bad about putting it down.
It's a bit like comparing your mistress to your wife.

Double album ?
Can you imagine a song from Bleed on Beggars and visa versa ?

Both are excellent, but I would choose Beggars (My all time favorite)

Plus with Beggars Banquet, you could spend your time staring at that great inside photo. LIB doesn't have that going for it.

That's true Cindy, everytime I listen I had that picture in front of me, looked at the green apple or the strange/funny trousers Brain was wearing.

Neither can I. But do we have to choose between 2 opuses that made The Stones were they are.

Yeah, it's great, I love Keith in that one. He was just made to wear those clothes.

i'm glad you dig it, but ... i'm a she-sssoul,
so your use of "mate" is a bit er ambiguous :E

>> Double album ? <<

yeah! the transition album from Mach I to Mach II, to be exact.
if you don't hear them that way that's okay, though - we don't have to hear them the same way.
(but: can you imagine tracks from side 1 of Tattoo You on side 2, or vice versa?
the fact that they're different doesn't mean they don't go together, at least for me.)

Keith, be well

Beggars Banquet by a cupcake. Why? 10 songs v. 9. Good a reason as any. Also, a couple of the best LIB songs (YCAGWYW and MR) are much better on the stage. BB is a damned near perfect studio creation. I'll add one more reason: Stray Cat.

Thanks all, looks like it's 50/50, I think I'm gonna cheat, take beggars and put the bleed record also in the beggars cover.

Yeah don't do that to us. That was too difficult. You might as well ask, should I cut off my left ear or right.

I'd love to post a chopped-off ear, but I don't think that'll make me popular.
