Thanks for posting the videos !
It's incredible how Jagger "takes " the stage .And he seems to have fun too .He's really the best frontman ever !!!
I've liked the guitar from The Edge on GS.

Thanks Logie for the great review. What a wonderful evening it was, and Jagger's appearance, in top of all that, must've been like an orgasm... Huh!

Awww...sure !Goosebumps and a lot of pleasure to see him again on stage.I miss the Stones so much ...

Mick sounds great, but this has to be the worst version of Gimme Shelter ever.

I do like this version at least it's not a copy and the sound through a mobile phone isn't that good

The organ is a bit irritating though, and a pitty Fergies skirt is too long

from www.rollingstone.com:

Bono intros “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” with a long
speech: “Here in rock & roll’s great cathedral, Madison Square Garden, think
about all the pilgrims and pioneers that got us all here, the saints and the
heretics, the poets and the punks that now make up the Hall of Fame. It’s a
dangerous thing, this business of building idols, but at least rock & roll is
not at its best about worshiping sacred cows. It’s about thousands of voices
gathered at once in a great unwashed congregation, like tonight. For a lot of
us here, rock & roll means just one word: liberation. Political, sexual,
spiritual liberation.”

You know these guys who spoil every party by talking about their mother, their
work, their new PC, their back-ache...Bono is just one of them.

I don't want to spoil the party, but in what this version of Gimme Shelter
is exciting ?
I don't like it, the way they played it is awful!
Hopefully, there's Mick, that's the only thing which worth IMOwinking smiley

Keith, Ron and Charlie please join Mick, i want the ROLLING STONES!

Well, I like Jagger and I even like U2, but this version of Gimme Shelter is horrible. The Synth and the Strings S*CK big time. Fergie looks good tho.......

I am not totally agree with you ,Honestman.
The way they've played isn't "awfull".I would say "messy" .
I am not sure Gimme Shelter was a good choice for playing because of The Edge 'guitar sound.

It would be nice if guitar players on this board (Mathis and others ) post what they think about it ,I mean in a "technical approach ".

Pity The Edge didn't make it better ,although I 've liked his first notes in the intro.
Didn't like the chorus .

It's more that they tried to make a U2 song out of it which doesn't really work out imo. I'm not a U2 hater and I love a lot of Edge's work but here he destroyed the song with his trademark "single note with lot of reverb and delay" sound. He also put some notes in there which simply do not fit (at least for my ears).

Mick was great & Fergie too - but Gimme Shelter just doesn't suit U2's sound - I'm sure they played all the correct notes in the intro, but somehow it just didn't come out as Gimme Shelter!

BTW, thanks shortfatfanny for the Ray Davies clip.

Yes ,this is it !!

>>Trademark <<<<:

That's what I meant ...reverb & delay ....I ain't a guitar player but I am able to reckon(ize) the "sounds"
This is why I think Gimme Shelter wasn't a well advised choice.

I would have prefered another Stones song .....

Anyone here to open the next thread concerning Rock´n´Roll Hall of Fame 25th
anniversary...

What about to check first other threads being in a certain prominent position
the whole weekend if you´re not sure about ?

For that reason Bjornulf combined several ones, easy to realize...

It's just a shame The Rolling Stones weren't there to perform, after all, it is the Stones who where inducted into the Hall of Fame, not just Mick Jagger.

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

The fact that it only takes ONE Rolling Stone to completely STEAL a show like this is what's so great about them.

It's because of their greatness that they don't HAVE to show up everytime some corporate big wig throws a party. They can afford to be conspicuously absent. That's one of the perks that come with being great.

I will say again (prematurely) The Stones will roll !!!!! Don't kid yourself the condition of Keef, he is an animal. If we don't know it by now we never will !!! Sure I think something was wrong in the EUR07 tour but whatever it was he's beat it. There's too much coincedence all these sightings happening recently. It's a plan, don't doubt it. One that I like !!!
