keith solo in 1981

While listening to hampton '81, I noticed keith plays note per note the same small solo in When the whip comes down (0:17-0:20) and Hang fire (0:42-0:48), incredible solo indeed!
have you heard it in any other song?

It's just a lick that he uses quite a lot, that he throws in there. But it's not note per note the same solo.

He also uses that lick in the ending of Tie You Up on Undercover, btw smiling smiley

You're right!
At double speed, but the same lick anyway.
Thanks

Just My Imagination Hampton 8:10-12, same lick.

A variant can be heard in the final segment of the solo in Under My Thumb from Still Life.

Actually, I think Keith nicked this lick from jazz sax players.

Its a Chuck Berry homage

Oh come on, you can't call that a "solo". That is the sound of Keith scratching his butt, and getting situated; kind of surveying the scene.
Any guitar player whose been at it longer than a week does that run in his sleep.

well, he did it all by himself, so it was a "solo" in that sense, at least...

It always sounds like a Scotty Moore run to me.

His UMT solo, now that's a solo Keith played note per note the same during the whole tour. And it worked - it gives me goosebumps even hearing it for the umpteenth time.

maybe someone could upload a sound file of the lick you're talking about,
or pinpoint it in a handy youtube clip or something?
that would be wonderfully educational - please and thank you kindly :E

for example here's Hang Fire from Hampton - anagyrus mentioned 0:42-0:48
but i suspect the time is a little different on the youtube clip

I'd say the lick starts 0:48 (the latter half of the second) and ends at the first tenth of 0:51.
