Düsseldorf isn't one of the usual cities. Apart from in 98, I can't remember when they last played there. Where did this rumour come from, Havo?

With the exception of Berlin, have the Stones played in any former East Germany cities?

I think maybe in Leipzig?

Not in Dresden? Would have thought that they would have played there. Too close to Leipzig or Prague perhaps?

Don´t forget the club gig in my living room. I saved all my pocket money for this.

I think the one they played was the one thats close to Holland

(didnt realise there was another city with an almost identical spelling though)

They played Voodoo in Schüttdorf 1995, "... somewhere in the middle of nowhere ... " (Mick), near the dutch border!

Sure it was the one at the Dutch border. Will never forget that one. Five or six support acts, it was hot hot hot and when finally the Stones hit the stage they welcomed the huge crowd (more than 80,000) with the words "Welcome to the place in the middle of nowhere" and got a very loud response when he asked : "Anyone here from Holland?"Stones gig was kind ogf mediocre, audience was tired after a long day in the burning sun and five more or less boring support acts.

OK I will tell you a private story. While I am on my way to another Stones show. Over Hudson Bay in Canada as often when flying...

For the summer of 2003 things are quiet at work (people do not work in summer in Norway) so I had booked most of the Stones shows for travels. I told my wife I would do most of the shows but there were a few field shows in Germany I would not go to because I wanted to be at home at least a few times during the 3 months or so summer. So she asked me if they were during the working week or during the week-ends and I said they were in the week-ends. Knowing I am hopelessly in love with the Stones she said if it is in the week-ends then it does not take away working days so why don't you go? Needless to say it took me like one millisecond to hear what se said and book some more travels that year.

So I was lucky to attend shows I thought would be hard work and lots of queues and some times not right on my airports:

Fri Jun 13 2003 Vision Zukunftspark Oberhausen
Sun Jun 15 2003 Olympic Stadium Berlin
Fri Jun 20 2003 Festwiese Leipzig
Sun Jun 22 2003 Ring (racetrack) Hockenheim
Fri Aug 08 2003 Open Air Arena Hannover

In fact these shows were my "missing links" but I made them all,
and they were just fantatic. So I saw every show that summer.

Oberhausen: All the dirt and queues still fantastic crowd and show.

Berlin: Is there a better crowd in Germany?

Leipzig: Cold night but great crowd and show.

Hockenheim: Been there before and fantastic every time hot hot hot.

Hannover : Sure it was great one more time!

So just make sure Germany makes a great world championship
in football then Michael Cohl will make sure the Stones
are coming to cities in Germany were we can all enjoy
a crowd of 50,000 - 90,000 people, 10 trucks of Becks beer
and some fantastic Stones songs of course!
Don't miss any of these shows if you live nearby.

And as always I expect the Stones to do around 10 shows
in Germany. Most popular place to play in Europe in fact.
And I will be there!

I've been to quite a few shows in Germany and always have a great time in Berlin and the great fans there. Then travelling to Leipzig which is good for traffic after the show because of gridlock. Down to Hockenheim for the heat and again great fans.

but have you got any hints for NEXT summer, apart for Hockenheim ?

Many roumors in Germany, but in some very few days we will know all the locations and dates in 2006.

Yes I have got the hints but the truth is they are not finished booking yet. Still a few contracts due so we just have to be patient for a couple more weeks. I don't live in Germany so for me it does not matter what city they lay it there. And to be honest... I know Oslo and Bergen is up for bids in Norway and again to be honest I will drive 20 minutes to Oslo or fly 1 hour to Bergen (west in Norway) don't matter to see them so for me it's all about patience and then we will have all the details later on this month. My guess is 8 or so shows in Germany. Munich. Hockenheim. Berlin. Plus 5-6 more shows.
