Fred Sokolow's The Slide guitar book : learn the distinctive sounds of the masters published by Hal Leonard has Love In Vain in it.

Is the solo in standard or open g depends I guess if its from 1969 or 1972.

Excuse me, but the solo in 1969 (Hide Park and Madison Square) was in 'OPEN G' ?

Thanks

yeah but his solo on LAG from 1972 was in standard on both the slide and single
note solo. That was my point how it was tabbed out in the book.

As far as I know Mick played normal tuning (Mathijs?). And the solo differs from show to show. Sometimes he didn't even play bottleneck. Get Your Leeds Loungs out for instance.

Yeah it's true. I see the solo in "LADIES AND GENTLEMAN" DVD and I see that's in standard tuning.

But I did not know that the solo in GET YER YA.... was in OPEN G

Thank you very very much.

Is it that hard to figure this stuff out yourself? You can hear what he's playing can't you?

You can listen to what he is playing and try to do the same thing.

Just listen to every note and try to understand the solo yourself.

The solo's in the books are often not near what the original guitarist is playing. They just do what they hear, and you should do the same thing.

Yeah. I can play like Mick. I have 40 years old and I play the guitar since 1980 in a rock'n'roll band called UNDERGROUND.

On the solo from GYYYO, he detuned his high E-string to D.
Brian did the same for LRR. I doubt Taylor tuned his whole guitar
to an open-G for that number. When you drop your E-string down to D,
you're 2/3 to open-G, so you have to be careful if you're going to the lower strings.
If you drop both E-strings to D (double-drop D tuning) that's the tuning
Neil Young uses for a lot of stuff (Cinnamon Girl, Ohio, etc...).

The reason I brought up the standard tuning issue was its more difficult to play
slide in standard concert tunings then in open and thats what taylor does on
LIV on LAG .
