To be a real Rock'n Roll Band it takes many right ingredients. There have been other great true Rocking bands of course. I wouldn't call the great band U2 neccessarily a R&R band. Humble Pie and the Faces had it all right. But a band that rarely gets mentioned as one of the real great ones was the band that Joe Cocker had assembled in his heyday. Mad Dogs & Englishmen. Led by Leon Russell he used the creme of session guys on his own Golden Era. Jimmy Page, Winwood, Chris Stainton, the two Jims on drums Keltner and Gordon, Bobby and Jim on horns, carl radle, probably Clydie and Vanessa. Excellent tunes and vibe.

Nope; and Chucksters band aint that bad either!
Rockman: What records do I look for when wanting Gene?
...Everybody checked out Hurriganes. Gazza; I doubt you saw H-ganes in their heydays (?); but if you did I´m not so sure you´d prefer the E-Streets. In my case its the opposite; if I was to see the E-S:s, I might have chose them.
.......Pistols was some kind of Rock'n Roll band too; and N.Y.Dolls sure have earnt to be mentioned here... As have Slade, Ziggy Stardust & Marc Bolan & T-Rex. And what about ol´ Jimi hendrix.
I´m sure some more name will pop up in my old head soon... Right now it does! Lizzy: would like to add them to my list above.
There are just to many I think. But when it comes to the stage to compare it with the Stones in Dimension it is Led Zeppelin. Concertwise there used to be the biggest competitors in the 70ies and even arranged that they would not tour the same countries anymore as they did in 75. I was in Canada for 7 weeks Snowboarding last winter and I was very surprised that the kids half my age listen mostly to heavy rock and rock'n'roll more than the new stuff. The most air besides the Stones still have truly Led Zeppelin. Moneywise the Stones should have waited for another year to go on tour to make it a real cashcow. But for me it seems they wanna do it as long as Charly can be committed to join.
Dandelion how can you say that you hope DJ jojns the Dolls? he IS what is left of the Dolls. Syl is still alive but was always a wooss. There have been so many excellent real bands mentioned. real rockin bands. Elvis with Scotty Moore or James Burton and DJ Fontana on drums. The best drummer ever! What about the Beatles guys? Or the Clash??? Pistols and Dolls, hell yes. T Rex did become a fine band with Legend and Currie. Anyone remember Mickey Finn? Heehee I don't find the E-Street a R &R Band. Gazza will not agree. IMO there's too many of them. That is one of the trhings that has always bugged me about the Bossman. All those arpeggios on those keyboards, and those damn glockenspiels, chimes. The guitars don't seem to bite enough and max Weinberg, no matter what he says in my book don't cut it. I don't like him on Conan and don't like him live. the thing is in the end somehow somwehere they put on a hot show. I think this is a testament to just how dynamic and powerful Bruce alone is.
Many great bands mentioned, but when talking about GREATEST Rock'n Roll Bands, I feel that only Led Zeppelin and The Who can be reasonably compared with The Stones.
The Joe Ely Band live from about 1985 until 1990 with David Grissom on guitar, Bobby keyes on sax, Davis McClarty on drums and Neil Pettit on bass. White hot...you had to be there...
I'm skipping individuals w/ great bands like James Brown, Muddy, Grace Jones, etc - these are great integrated units: Beach Boys Byrds Captain Beefheart's Magic Band Small Faces (as well as Faces) Jefferson Airplane Husker Du Replacements Sly & the FS ('67 - 74) Velvets Chic Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band The Band PiL (thru Keith Levene's departure) P/Funk Roxy Music (thru Manifesto) Meters Ramones
VELVET UNDERGRRRROUND!!!!!! They are the most influential without being boring. Great band. Maybe the greatest. Jimi Hendrix of course no band but still. Beatles. Kiss? No maybe not. But Led Zeppelin? Guns and Roses. Aucoin? Do you like G&R?
