Top 'rock' album of all time.....
Posted by: micklips ()
Date: September 4, 2009 23:36

Our local classic rock station is doing the top 200 rock album count down for Labor Day. It's a novelty since they don't declare the criterea how it's judged but we think it's something between sales, requests, staying power, etc. We're in the midwest of USA. They just did no. 161 'Out Of Our Heads' - Stones, then a Blondie album at 160...now a Led Zep III at 159..to give us a gague...here's our prediction for this part of the world's no. 1....here's 4 probable choices (again NO criteria has been set, it's a commercial stab) ...Boston's 1st album, Sgt. Pepper, Led Zeppelin II, Dark Side Of The Moon. (Sticky or Let It Bleed in the top 10 probably?)

Anyone care to guess? Commercially vs. what probably should be? (We can let you all know late Labor Day what THEY come up with) This is just for fun as we know there are so many variables, tastes, eras, sounds, production...etc, etc.

Commercially: Srgt. Peppers? or something horrible like the Eagles.

What it should be: Tommy. One album I never get tired of.

Yes, we were just saying....Eagles are going to be up there, blah. Again, this is typical commcercial classic rock stations....yikes, what they come up with. They just did Eddie Money's 'No Control' at abou 158.

Tommy...yes, great.

Pat Benetar 'Crimes of Passion' is coming in at about 150 after David Bowie 'Compilation-Changes'.

What ever happened to Pat Benetar, she is awesome? Is she still out there?

KQRS 92.5 in Minnesota. They just did Zep Im followed by Scorpians 'Love At First Sting', just now doing 'Aftermath by the Stones....

Again, this is just novelty and for fun, no criteria that we know of. Stones are rocking right now....I guess it's 152...lost track of numbers. But they have our boys going now. Probably KQRS.com or something like that.

Check it out....kind of fun.

Billy Idol - Rebel Yell, cranked right now. Cool song I think. We're somewhere at 150-ish.

This actually is kind of fun.

Makes us all wonder what could be the top 10....??? But we get that it's local. Although this station is pretty hip with classic rock for a big audience...we'll just see how this plays out.

Elvis, Iggy, Patti, Dolls, T Rex, Cooper, Stone (Exile), Nirvana,
Dire Straits, Lizzy, Purple, Doors, Joplin, Jimi, ACDC maybe
oughtta be in the top..

But theres most often the same kinda albums all over
by the voice-strong media-gurus in my age (40-something..)

ROCKMAN, you're the dude, what you guess the top 5 or 10 'albums of all time' will be for a 'classic rock station' (actually they're pretty hip here locally for classic rock?)....but none-the-less probably commercially influenced...blah, blah. But we're having fun trying to figure it out??. Probably the same for all Metro areas in the USA for classic rock count downs. Some great John Fogherty on right now - Centerfield....about number 140-ish.

Top 5 or 10 for a classic Rock station.....anywhere pretty much??

142 - Yellow Brick Road, Bennie is cranked right now - yippe

I know this is totally local and we'll see how everyone agrees with the 'top 10' - that's a few days from now.....

Oh well, good night.

Number 1 will probably be Revolver, SGT Pepper or Abbey Road. All three will likely be in the top 10 anyway.

Re: Top 'rock' album of all time.....

No, they already had Revolver at 145, LOL. It's not a critic's poll; it's consumer product.
AC/DC could be up there with the "Black" album;
Dark Side of the Moon too. Or "The Wall".
Does "Thriller" count?
"Rumors" by Fleetwood Mac. "Born in the USA" by Bruce.
Nirvana always gets in there somehow. Metallica and Guns 'n Roses.

Then again, it might be Michael Jackson's year.

Commercial radio is a strange animal.

The to one-hundred-something-or-other is always a good strategy to lock in listeners on the last long weekend of summer (for us northern hemisphere folks, Rockman).

Personally, I prefer the block party idea, where they just play a block of songs from one artist or band and then move on to the next one. Rock n' roll's not a top ten list, it's a party.

Cheers

Count down top rock albums? (Minnesota - probably typical of all 'classic rock stations' in the USA?)

We are all having fun figuring out the next album - right now, Slow Hand - Eric clapton... Starting to heat up.....

And what's actually cool, is they're playing 2-3 deep cuts of each album and as they get closer to 'what they think are the top albums, they play 4-5 cuts in a row' very cool idea......

Keep you all posted ( not that this is 'definitive' final top rock, but fun none-the-less....)

Stones, The Who, Zepp, Hendrix, and the Beatles really ought to be in the top 10. Depends how you define rock. Is punk rock a sub division?

I'd think AD/DC's 'Back In Black' would be up there somewhere both on merit and due to current tour.

Foreigner's 'Double Vision' at #130

We don't want to hog IORR so maybe we'll sneak in an update periodically over the next few days as they get closer to the top 10. Again, this is very unofficial and just for fun........good for Labor Day weekend chatter.....

Any more guesses at the top 10 or 5? (classic rock station pics, remember).

We're still guessing: Boston's 1st, Zep II, Sgt. Pepper, AC/DC Black, Dark Side of Moon.....in the top 10 or so - hopefully a Stones...Sticky or Let It Bleed perhaps??
