Mick's quick wit
Posted by: CindyC ()
Date: September 3, 2009 22:49

I was just listening to an old interview from 67-68? - it's that Japanese telephone call one which I probably got from here.

Anyway - the interviewer asks him what direction he's going to be taking the new album, and without skipping a beat he says "sideways".

He's very quick and funny. Thought it might be fun to have a thread of some examples if anyone can think of any.

I also loves when he says "easily" to Dick Cavett about whether he can still do it when he's in this 50's (paraphrasing).

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Well someone asked him who he would be if he wasn't Mick Jagger, and he said "someone else"

or there's the one where someone asks him if people follow him into the bathroom and he says something like - i don't know - i never ask them what they're doing in there.

The most famous for me is Charlies comment "working 5 years and 20 years hanging around"

When Brittany Spears was sitting next to a seemingly disinterested Mick for an MTV interview, and she said her performance that night was going to be braver than usual, Mick snapped alive and in a leering voice said "we can't wait to see your bravery"

I remember seeing this interview from the 80's where The woman interviewing him does a name association game where she says a name, and Mick is supposed to say the first thing that comes to his mind. She says "Margeret Thatcher" and he's really stumped and goes "hmmmmmm.... " and after a long pause he says "Iron Nickers". I think its funny because He was so serious and deep in thought and that was his answer.

yeah..remember when mick said "who's fighting...and what for?" hilarious. (just kidding)

actually, cindy ..you're right mick was very clever...mostly in the mid '60s when
he was one on one with a stodgy ol' news reporter.

i can't think of anything witty or clever from recent interviews or press conferences....
..but i'm open to being reminded.

he's always been thoughtful with his responses unless he's trying
to make an interviewer look foolish.

IORR............but I like it!

I remember he answered, asking about which fotball team he supported, he said: "I support Tottenham and Arsenal!" the inervjuer said. "You Can't support TWO teams at the same time!", "I can't ?" Very funny, because you CAN'T support two teames...

He always seems so serious ....to a journalist who asked him if he wasn't too tired being on the road, what did he answer -don't remember the right sentense with "doing nothing "?

There's nothing forced about Charlie, least of all his modesty. It's TOTALLY real. He cannot understand what people see in his drumming.

Mick and Lennon, no one comes close to them regarding wit...

I remember reading long ago, an interview done by Lisa Robinson and she asked Mick if he knew her husband and he said something like "yes, I sucked his....."

Or I just dream it.

A ridiculously camp Mick talking about Bowie on Dutch TV in 1973 when an interviewer was angling that he had an affair with DB.

Mick: "You might find him attractive. He doesn't look that good in the morning."
