Say It's Not You

In response to the Gram/WH thread, I think this is Keith's finest country moment.

His voice and George Jones' together really play off of each other - maybe the best voice ever with "The Worst".

I really like this one and sing Keith's part when we play it - my voice ain't so hot either!

It's certainly a great pleasure to hear but I'd go for We Had it All as the finest but some might say that it isn't country. What do you (or anyone else) have to say, Elmo?

Its very good, although I prefer their duet of 'I'm Gonna Burn Your Playhouse Down'.

I cant see any other way to describe it, personally.

I thought the composer of "We HAd It All" WAS a country songwriter!

Thanks for posting. I'm glad we agree. I can't claim to be an aficionado so, although it sounds like country to me, I was, as always, prepared to be corrected.

Wouldn't it be great if Keith released an official album of country or blues (or both) covers? Unfortunately I don't think it will happen while the Stones are still going as it would highlight the decline in the quality of their own material.

Yeah I always wished that Keith had put out a vinyl album(like in the old days "So and So goes country!" or "The Rythm n Blues Side of So and So" like ALL the pop artists of the day released!) of hard core Honky Tonk songs or Gut Bucket Blues.

I think "We Had It All" was written by Waylon Jennings.

"Say It's Not You" IS the one with Geroge Jones.

"You Win Again" is another nice Keef-country effort as is "Apartment #9".

Elmo, We Had It All was written by Don Fritts & Troy Seals
Waylon did record it - it's on Honky Tonk Heroes, if I recall

Thanks, Sohoe. I knew Waylon sang it.

I think the songs on Honky Tonk Heroes were written by the great Billy JOe Shaver.

...yeah he teamed up with Shaver for that one. Wonderful record

Billy Joe Shaver did write(or co-wrote)the songs on HT Heroes except for "We Had It All".

Waylons version on "Honky Tonk Heroes" Keiths was recorded for "Emotional Rescue" I think but never released except on boot.

All the song credits I've seen for We Had It All is that Donnie Fritts & Troy Seals wrote it.
