You can't always get what you want but be thankful for what you get.

Do you think that is Universal's marketing policie?
I've heard they can squeeze lemons beyond killn dry.

Why does the point of every release have to be measured in sales? Not every act thinks that way - no reason why the Stones should as well. And not being released doesnt necessarily mean it wasnt good enough either.

How many people do you think bought Neil Young's Archives release?

any news of a new album? If there is a tour starting next year will it be on the back of a compilation?

Re: Anthology To Be Released By Universal

I'm betting my last packet of seed that this so-called "anthology" nonsense will add up to little more than yet another greatest hits box-set, cynically to include a smattering of those odd b-sides and oddities as listed in urbansteel's earlier post.

Why?

Because the type of record company execs that work on behalf of the Stones care not a single jot for any of the kind of archived material that we drool over on these very pages.

...not unless it makes them lots of money.

I think part of the drive behind the succeess of a release is how well the Stones sell because Mick always bases (it sure seems like it anyway) the success of an album by how it sells. It's the same thing all the time - after the album is out and a few more as well he'll say something negative about an album based on sales. Which, I guess to him, means it wasn't popular so therefor it's no good since it didn't sell - hell, if it only sells 3 million in, say, the US, where as 5 albums ago one sold 4 million, he'll say the 3 mil seller is lame.

Maybe the original poster heard something about a Ya-Ya's box set and then became confused.

Maybe they'll let Urban put this together - but throw in "Drift Away", "You Got It Made", and "So Young" too.

This 'anthology' thing seems unlikely. Keith didn't say anything about it in his interview, and if there is a Ya Ya's remaster box in November, it is unlikely they'd release a Stones set immediately after, even though we're talking different companies (Abkco and Universal)... and THEN release an Exile remaster set soon after. That's three big packages... If it ends up being true I'll be really happy! If not, I'll be happy enough w/ the Ya Ya's and Exile releases... can't wait for those.

I'm already quite sceptical of the Stones as regards the oft-discussed "opening of the vaults" so I'd say that "anthology" equals "greatest hits" repackaged in a fancy new sleeve, maybe with some liner notes, a few unreleased pix and a few toe nail clippings.

It is deeply ironic that ABKCO, a company painted as the devil incarnate by some fans, appears to be on the verge of going some way to producing a decent rerelease package.

(My hat is of course standing by for consumption should I be proved wrong).

There will not be any Anthology this year, so I was told some month ago.

But meanwhile UMC is still working:

- All the studio albums have been remastered, most have been released too, Exile will follow in spring 2010
- New release of Jump Back
- The live albums have been remasered, too. Release date will be in November 2009, No Security will follow in 2010

What will we get in 2010?

Exile, No Security, some more sampler-re-releases to complete the UM-RollingStones-C, and:

New album, tourdates and after all: The Anthology late summer 2010.

And there are so much Rolling Stones promo-vids, never ever released, except the Rewind ones ...

I'm Just Sitting On A Fence,
Get My Ya-Yas Out ...

Someone that despises those disco dance remixes, hence taking what you put for IORR and giving it a silly remix name like they do a lot but actually likes the actual extended versions and actual remixes - short (Love Is Strong, I Go Wild) or long (more like just different edits - Miss You, One Hit, Undercover, etc...).

A guarded welcome, if true.

I sincerely hope we can replace the word "Includes" in your second sentence with "Consists of". Another excuse for a compilation padded out with a few unreleased songs would be yet another wasted opportunity.

So everyone who bought the new Sticky Fingers, Black & Blue, Some Girls, etc. will now be expected to buy these same CDs in a box four months later so they can get some additional rare recordings?
