NOT SOLD OUT!!!!

i don´t get offensive. but if this would have been the normal stage in a stadium setup it would have been sold out easily. the whole idea behind that 360 tour is you can sell a lot more tickets for the cost of maybe not sell out but have 93000 people attending the concert.

sold out or not is not the point but how many tickets for what price.

i am not a u2 fan but i think this tour, show and performance is really good and i think the stones could follow that example.

I go with you a 100% but it was not sold out ;-) the last U2 tour wasn't sold out as well (concerning berlin). And mind: There are only 2 concerts in Germany. The stones do always some more ... and if there had been this massiv price drop the stones would have had a fuller stadium in 2006 (which wasn't empty at all)

But at the and it's no !we are better than them thing" ( I linke U2 as well)

cheers Jens

I was also amazed how many tickets were still available at Milano just before the show. And how does it work in Italy, they sell so much shirts etc. outside the venue, definitely not official stuff.

cool but when the stones were in berlin 1/3 of the stadium was empty, when you compare to u2 standards even half empty.

Re: OT: Impressive U2 tour boxscores

don´t think so. only a very few hardcore fans travel. most people go to the concerts
in their area spontaneously. if u2 would give more concerts they could fill those too, maybe not sell out but easily half empty.

so why don't they do it?!

Re: OT: Impressive U2 tour boxscores

Theyre only doing 15 cities in Europe this year - most of them in the biggest stadia in the continent (San Siro, Croke Park, Nou Camp, Wembley & Stade de France are I think the five biggest in Europe)

I think the stage is too big for the dimensions of many stadiums. Maybe next year's tour will see them play some smaller stadiums with a slightly smaller stage set up?

It says that it WAS sold out. And as it states the attendance, then by definition thats also the capacity.

As much as I know there were NO tickets at the eventim.de 2 days before the show (the last time I checked).

As one of those lucky ones who were there I have to say I didn't see any empty seats and judging from the photos, the field could not be fuller (all GA tickets were sold in the pre-sale anyway, there were no GA tickets on the regular sale).

It is true that there were still some of the most expensive seats just a couple of days before the show, but I am pretty sure that at the end it was sold-out.

And well...does it really matter? ...the claw or not the claw? ...was it sold out, or were there 50 tickets left? C'mon, the show is great, fans love it, what else do we need to know? And there is no need to thake it personally that it is not the Stones. Hopefully the Stones will please us the next year and meanwhile we can go to se U2, Bruce or whoever suits anyone's taste...

... the truth must be out there. the fact that there were plenty of tickets left make be really doubt it, also all the press reports said it was not sold out. what they say the have a good statistic is another thing.

One show may or may not have been sold out for U2's 360.

How many shows for the Bigger Bang tour were not sold out? From my understanding, a few of them.

There are always tickets available a day or two before a show. I've gotten tickets to a show that was already sold out. It seems to me that there is a minimum for the promoter to deal with. It's based on what they make available, not exactly how many seats there are. For the Superdome show in 1994 they made, if I recall correctly, 64,000 available and 22,000 were bought. Certainly they could have made 75,000 available...

"Just for the record, ABB grossed $558 million during 147 shows. At this rate, U2 will shatter that record with only 60 shows".- The amazing provocateur Georgelicks

It's kind of like saying a batter who hits ten homeruns in his first ten games is on pace to hit 162 homeruns for the season. They are obviously playing the biggest stadiums now since they started in Europe but I don't think they will maintain that pace throughout the whole tour.

You can go by stats or not but you can't have it both ways. The Stones have at least five of the top ten tours of all time even though at least two of them were in the relatively low ticket prices age. Last time they went head to head with U2 The Stones outdid them. Now a few years later U2 tours again in humongous stadiums with an ingenius stage design and seem to be doing well. None of this will make U2 a better band or even a better touring band than The Stones.

Here is an impressive figure: The number of great Rolling Stones songs versus the
negligible whatever it is that U2 tries to pass off
as rock'n'roll.

Yeah but give U2 some credit. They do lead The Stones in the all important category of preaching from the stage. No band can compete with them in that area.

You bring this point up repeatedly Melillo and while I think you bring a lot to this forum I think I may speak for more than just myself when I say I honestly think you are the only one who gives one iota about this fact that they have all their original members. The sixties were a different time than the eightees. Lots of drug/alchohol related deaths. I think it only matters in an extreme case when a band has only one or maybe two original members left. If a band has been around for forty plus years and has three of the five original members then that it fine with me.

More power to U2, they are a fine band, but I'm not sure they'll be packing stadiums when Bono turns 60.

Between 1966 and 1979, the Stones released as many albums as U2 has for their entire career. (14 years versus 30) (If you include Ya-Ya's to counter Rattle and Hum)

I think it's great that U2 is playing new stuff, but the Stones played a ton of new stuff every tour until '97. And even then, there were still a few new ones. Let's see what the ratio of old to new songs is for U2 in 2019.

Congrats to U2 for pulling in so much dough, but they have a loooooong way to go before they can be compared to the Stones.

I'm not sure they'll even WANT to, but considering they're still attracting new fans (something the Stones gave up trying to do a decade ago), there's absolutely no reason to think they wouldnt be able to in what is just over a decade's time.
