So, I need a good RnR book to read, and I've read all the Stones ones. What's everyone's non-Stone fav's? Any Hank. Elvis, Everylys, etc would be appriciated.

Ian McLagan's "All The Rage".

Okay it has some Stones-content... But it's overall great.

Shout is a great read, as is The Lennon Playboy interviews...

I agree MIles is a must!

Read all the liner notes from the Kinks reissues on Rhino...great! Would be cool for them to collect them into a book!

Bill Graham Presents. My Life Inside Rock And Out from 1992 by Graham and and Robert Greenfield. To me one of the best bio`s ever written: escape from Nazi-Germany through Europe finding new parents in the US, growing up, the Filmore-times, on tour with Led Zep and the Stones til the end when he lost the race between him and Michael Cohl. A fantastic read, highly recommended.

WHo says he lost? I think Billy was actually the truer artist than Cohl...

Peter Guralnick's twin masterpieces on Elvis - Last Train to Memphis (which covers the period up to 1958) and Careless Love (1959 until his death) - are simply unbeatable IMO.

For a 'biography' (if you can call it that) dissecting an artist's MUSIC though, the best is unquestionably the late Ian McDonald's Beatles book "Revolution In The Head".

If you're a Gratefyl Dead fan you should read these two:

Living With The Dead by Rock Skully

Home Before Daylight by Steve Parish.

Cannot recommend them enough.

I agree on this one:
Clapton: The Autobiograhy - Eric Clapton

and then there's the companion volume of sorts, also very good:
Wonderful Tonight - Patti Boyd (Harrison Clapton)

If you like Iggy Pop, "Open Up and Bleed" by Paul Trynka is amazing.

If you like "The Dirt" and/or Mötley Crüe, "The Heroin Diaries" by Nikki Sixx is in many ways better than The Dirt.

If you're interested in punk rock (Velvet Underground, Bowie, Stooges, NY Dolls, Patti Smith, Ramones, Television, etc.), the book "Please Kill Me" is very very good.

Clapton's book is really good too.

Aerosmith's autobiography, "Walk This Way" is amazing as well.

All the ones I mentioned are great for real. smiling smiley
