He's just about the only person who can make fun of it. It's called self irony. And it's a great survival strategy.
When people with no empathy and no knowledge of what happened make jokes about it, it's more like evil.
There's a difference here. I'm sure you understand, when you've given it some thought.

He'd never joke about someone else's serious illness. He's got more than his portion of empathy - and the biggest, warmest heart. But he's full of self irony. I've experienced this myself.

So true. He'd never poke fun at Elton John writing songs for Dead Blondes or joke about snorting his Dad's ashes, either.
Bottom line - anyone who made coconut tree jokes was still ecstatic that Keith was okay. Humor doesn't always translate as insensitivity. Hardly the same thing as crass jokes about Mick's dad passing away and the paramedics mistaking Keith for Joe as was seen in an editorial cartoon at the time. Gallows humor is not to everyone's taste, but it isn't mean-spirited so much as it is irreverent and that is certainly something an old Max Miller fan like Keith also embraces.

Is he the same? Does anybody really know his condition, mentally or physically?

I hear from reliable sources that he is back where he was pre-fall - that was a major ordeal and it takes time, especially when you're not 20 years old...

the tree story always sounded a bit like the one where he fell down a ladder in his library and they had to postpone their planned 98 UK summer tour for a year....

He's fine - and with a great tan. Very eager to work.
He'll show his "amateur doctors" on iorr.org just how wrong they are.

Here's the true story.
At this time, Keith wanted to release a new cover version
of Jimmy CLIFF' standard, and he wanted to know why after writing
"The harder they come", Jimmy CLIFF had written "The harder they fall".
So we can say now that climbing on a tree is not easy
and Keith
is really happy because he could answer to this question that shattered him!
That's all

I read somewhere or heard somewhere that he had/has to take darvon or something like that as an anti-seizure medicine and that medicine makes one very sleepy. But who knows how long he is supposed to be taking it. Plus from personal experience, head injuries cause one to be quite tired afterwards for quite some time as the brain heals.
no..it's called self-deprecation...Quote
