Ethan Russell´s LET IT BLEED Book (reloaded)
Posted by: shortfatfanny ()
Date: March 30, 2009 02:23

As I don´t find the original thread concerning the limited - deluxe -
and very expensive release of his LIB book :

I just saw at amazon the release of a hardcover version of that one
announced to be released November 2009,price varies from 23-35$ or about 30 €.

If it´s true and exactly the book we´ve talked about that´s great news and -
thank you Ethan !

It's at $1,799.99 (Deluxe Version) on the American one, can't find it at all on the UK Amazon. You wanna check and see if it's still around? I think it's gone......

I think Russell has a new book coming out but it's not Photography and it's not called "Let It Bleed".....

It's slated for November release, according to Amazon UK. If I had already paid for the expensive edition, I might be annoyed.

I would be very annoyed if I had bought the "Collector's" book. In fact I seem to remember Ethan commenting on this site about how his book was a unique collector's piece of art, and that his book was more than you get from Genesis productions. I believe Genesis has only mass published one of their books, George Harrison's autobiography.
I am, however, selfishly gleeful I can get a cheaper version! Beautiful pics.

Here´s the link to amazon Germany,it´s listed as well at amazon UK.

I would be glad if it´s gonna be a 1:1 release ,and I suppose the hopefully
published "public" edition doesn´t consists of this quality paper and will
lack some extras of the limited ones, but I wouldn´t mind.

As it seems to be licensed to "springboard press" I couldn´t find any info´s or hints on E.Russell´s site.

If this is true, it's pretty low of Ethan, but at the same time I hope it is true! >grinning smiley<

No info either on Springboard site.
I wish it could be true, but have you seen the kind of books they publish ?
It's part of Hachette group I think.
No way there will be the Ethan Russel book on sale at 23 dollars ....Even an edulcorate version.Or may be a very very edulcorate version.
The title is not the same.

Perhaps it'll be the concert anecdotes etc from the LIB book.

Thanks The Joker
This is indeed the cover showed on Amazon .
But here is what I found on Hachette web site:

LET IT BLEED takes you where no Rolling Stones book has before. Author and photographer Ethan Russell was one of only sixteen people--including the Rolling Stones--who made up the 1969 tour. He was with them in their hotel rooms, at rehearsals, and on stage. He tells the story of this monumental and historic tour firsthand, including recollections from band members, crew, security, and other sixties icons--like Abbie Hoffman and Little Richard--they met along the way. And he also includes amazing photos of the performers who toured with the Stones that year: the legendary Tina Turner and B. B. King.

Through vivid quotes taken from his interviews with the band and crew, and through more than 220 revealing photographs, Russell takes you behind the scenes for an uncensored look inside the Rolling Stones' world at the end of the sixties. It was an idealistic time, with an overarching belief that music could bring us all together. But the events that led to the terrible violence and stabbing death at Altamont would change rock and roll forever.

With a nice covershot from '72... er, should it include the early Seventies as well? Would be alright with me.

Did what happened at Altamont really "change rock and roll forever"?

Thanks Joker for the cover pic and Sway for additional infos.
At amazon.com there is a Gerard Van Der Leun mentioned as well as
Ethan Russell,whatever that means.

Meanwhile I doubt that´ll be THAT Let It Bleed book E. Russell released
last year.

Not only the number of pages differ from each other ( 420 p deluxe edition -
256 p "new" edition ).
One could think with the changing of book´s size and some rearrangements it might
lead to the same, but I fear it´ll be shortened .

Hope I´m wrong, but anyway it´s release will be something to look forward.

yeah good news. But also, I can't help but reflect on the post from Ethan. If I had bought one of the collectors copies I would not be too please. Yes, Geniuses has only mass produced George's Autobiography, and Ethan really went to great lenghts to distinguish his book from them. Talk is Cheap.

Having recently browsed through the ORIGINAL and much more expensive version of the same title, I have to say that I was almost knocked off my perch by the stunning quality of the photographs.

...a labour of love, without any shadow of a doubt.

It is 23 bucks -- that's not too much money at all for a book like this -- it's 2 movie tickets, or 1 week of grande coffees, or 6 gallons of gas...and lasts a lifetime.
