Geez dcba. That's kind of a lame excuse. If I chose the bands I like based on some political ideology, my cd/record shelf would be bare.

I don't usually choose my bands based on their political preferences, mostly because I don't usually know what those preferences are. But, if I did, in this day and age it might just affect my feelings on them because everything is so polarised. Irregardless, everytime I hear about an artist or band like ZZ Top being republican, I can't help but think WHAT THE F..U..C..K.. IS UP WITH THAT!?! The reason being, these guys have lived the rock n' roll lifestyle, from what I know of them, to the hilt, done their fair share of everything, etc. Which is all fine and well. But then you hear they're republicans, and I can't help but wonder why. Don't they know that if the republicans had their way, all that shit would be outlawed more than it already is, and their music heavily censored, among other things? Don't they remember, or even know, what the Nixon administration did to John Lennon, and to a lesser degree, what happened to the MC5 and god knows who else during Nixon's time in office? I don't get it, and I can't rectify leading an at least somewhat hedonistic lifestyle and being a republican, when such a lifestyle goes against everything republicans stand for, and, in the case of the christian conservatives, preach. It makes no sense, and, in my eyes, makes them hypocrites, does it not? Am I the only one here that sees this dichotomy, this conflict? And before some republican ass-wipe starts whining, I don't think that democrats are any better, I'm a registered independent because I'm so fed up with both parties, but I feel the democrats are less concerned with taking/and or keeping certain personal liberties from me. Why do you think they are called liberals to begin with? Because they are more lenient about people's private matters than conservatives.

It ain't that hard to figure out. They are Texas boys who love their guns and drink, hate seeing their hard earned money pissed away by egotistical socialist hypocrites, and live in a red state overrun by illegals. Y'all should respect that they are free thinkers who refuse to drink the Kool-Aid so many in the music industry are drunk on. If you are a sheep, there is always Bono and U2 to worship.

No use to freak out.

I will always keep that brilliant performance they did in Germany April
1980 in mind.Never will forget it !

If their political preference for whatever reasons are the republicans...
so what ?

I won´t share it but I can´t change it.

steven - well said the liberal musical crowd the tries to impress their political views all of the time drives me nuts like Bruce Springsteen. I love his music though it has heart and energy I'm not not going to listen because he played at the Obama inaugural.

shortfatfanny - if I based my musical preferences on politics I would be listening to shite like Pat Boone. I like music for the way it sounds and makes me feel and I love ZZ Top's music regardless of wether they are communists or right wingers.

They're hard-core Republicans/Bushites so I'll pass on this one? Don't talk about their awesome music, they rock. Sorry Demo's, maybe they are against getting the crap taxed out of them, or maybe they aren't baby killers, or maybe they like our soldiers defending OUR Country unlike the Demo's who cut their pay and pull out. Of Course if YOU don't pull out in time, hey don't worry, they OK abortion! Oh yeah Obama is the answer, whatever! Keep on Rockin' ZZ I've met you and got autographs and saw you in concert 12 times, I hope they pick me to come to the storyteller concert!!

I was hanging with one of the members of ZZ after one of the McCain/Obama debates. We were not AT the debate, It just so happens I was with them the night of a concert and the debate was on earlier that evening. according to him, he was still on the fence on his prefrence. He's pretty straight forward with his beliefs, but he seemed in a voting bind that time around. No idea who he voted for and never asked him a week later...I try not to mix politics into social gatherings.

I put in my request for the VH1 Taping too. I do not live in Chicago, but would make the trip. I've seen them at least 20 times since 1983. SInce they have a casting agency doing most of the ticketing, it will probably be like the Stones Beacon Theater taping where you fill the front with the "hot" crowd. The agency wanted a recent photo of myself...maybe that's why I have not heard back yet!

Couldn't agree more. I think it's possible to take up social issues without getting political, so if they feel the need to express their views I wish they'd limit it to that. Besides, politics these days seems pretty much limited to "I'm not the other guy, so vote for me".

Thanks, steven, I'm with ya.

That said - I can enjoy the music of ZZ, Charlie Daniels, Nugent, Bruce, Bono, Sting, and others without getting political - in fact, I enjoy it a HELLUVA lot more without the politics.

I'm VERY interested in politics and the world situation, but, please, keep it seperate from my rock and roll.

Unfortunately that's all too true Kovach. Compromise is not a word in many people's vocablary these days....But if I had a chance to go see the ZZ Top taping I would. I'm more disturbed by the fact that they are looking for good looking poeple for the audience. At ZZ Top concerteye popping smiley
