Springsteen calls Wal-Mart deal a mistake

Jan 31 12:50 AM US/Eastern
NEW YORK (AP) - The Boss is owning up to a mistake.
In an interview with The New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn't have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest-hits CD.

Some fans were critical because Springsteen has been a longtime supporter of worker's rights, and Wal-Mart has faced criticism for its labor practices. Springsteen's team didn't vet the issue as closely as it should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it," he told the Times for a story to be published in Sunday editions and previewed on its Web site.

Springsteen went on to say: "It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be."

"Millions of Springsteen fans have counted on Wal-Mart over the years to deliver his music into their lives, and we will continue to offer those fans this 'Greatest Hits' exclusive and his other popular albums at unbeatable prices," Wal-Mart said in a statement, adding: "We are proud of the good jobs, benefits and career opportunities we provide to more than 1.4 million U.S. associates who choose to work at Wal-Mart and serve our customers every day."

Springsteen released his new CD "Working on a Dream" this week and is performing the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

Concerning the AP news article, it was a great pleasure watching the episode of Family Guy where Stewie and Brian were in a tank demolishing a Walmart Store!!

he doesnt.

Like every other artist, he's a side show event.

they're hardly going to delay the second half for an extended musical interlude

dont know how bruce is gonna pull this off, he takes 12 min for one song most of the time, guess we are going to get the readers digest versions

Re: OT - Springsteen Superbowl Setlist predictions

he could do it with 3 songs OK, as long as he doesnt milk one or two of them.

In concert, Tenth avenue, BTR and Glory days if played back to back last tour would have clocked in at around 15-16 minutes.

the studio versions would be around 12

I wonder if he will lip-sync? Apparently, there are reports that Petty's show was lip-synched, while the Stones and Prince were the real deal. What do you guys think?

Maybe Bruce will even use pre-recorded music like the Rolling Stones does on Sympathy For The Devil.

Petty was NOT lip-synched. Many INCORRECTLY pointed out that he appeared to lip synch during Free Falling. Here's the deal: The chorus (the "Freeeeeee Faalllllin" part) is sung an octave higher than the versus. To pull that off in front of a large live audience requires a vocal effect...basically an echo. So it just appeared that you were hearing him after he stopped singing, but it was the echoing.

I read a report that there will be a "schtick" after the third song where a referee will come onstage appearing to attempt to stop the band so that the football can resume, only to have the band launch into another song. Not verified...take it for what it's worth.

Yes, everyone knows the Stones did not lip-synch, but some reports say that Petty did.

"The Cardinals/Steelers opening for Bruce?"

Yeah, I'll go along with that, at least for this year. The last Super Bowl I was truly excited about was in 1998 (Green Bay vs Denver). Damn you, John Elway! sad smiley

Yeah HS,that line "You've got to lern to live with what you can't rise above". Gives me chills when I hear it.....So does this one:

Now that it's already been mentioned: I personally think the whole Tunnel of Love album is ignominously overlooked and underrated. Some fantastic songwriting on this one and one of my favourites for sure.
