CORRECTION: one day it will be for our children and/or grandchildren to enjoy

this is quite an indictment of our grandchildren...unborn and unnamed. the stones ain't worth the blood that runs in their veins....or something.

...or Universal records "deluxe edition" reloaded thread.

For what it´s worth - if someone of the stones camp checking the boards
at least from time to time it might get clear that there is a certain demand
for some real rarities presented in a proper way.
But this has been discussed over and over...

Let´s hope that it ´ll not end up in another "flop comp".

Too true.

if Mick was smart he'd release it sometime in our lifetime so that it would have at least SOME chance of selling to SOME kind of audience...

Dylan, The Who...Bowie, Young...release old stuff on and on again. And I love it. It´s good. Stones? Why not dvd:s from 72, 73, 78...and cd:s...I mean...they play so well...Why let us wait? Will it EVER happen? I just don´t understand. I just don´t understand! Money? Well...do Keith and Mick save these releases for a rainy day? Not likely. Even if they were teenagers they wouldn´t have the time to spend a tenth of it...Artistic values...well, what do you think? I can only guess...great shows from 72-82 would make some things very - obvious...But then again, lots of fans seem to love 2005-2007 shows as well. Just my thoughts.

I very much doubt there is anything in the vaults worth really dreaming or wishing for. I hope I am wrong. The last time the vaults were open really was in 1981 with the Tattoo You album. It was Mick’s project and it proved to be a cash cow idea. Don’t you think he would have done the same again and make even more cash? Specially when they have been desperately looking for some quality music. A Bigger Bang is a Stones repackage with different titles. Are they saving it for the will? Bullshit. There is nothing in the vaults and if there is I think it’s a shame.

so you are saying a complete pro shot from 73 is not worth wishing for?

Sadly, I don't think the Stones will be raiding any vaults of theirs until they finally stop functioning as a band, which alas, they will never bring themselves to admit to; at least not while they're still endeavouring to create some kind of ludicrous and ridiculous illusion that they are as relevant today as they ever were.

And while idiots are still buying the utter crap which is Live Licks and Shine A Light, the sell-by date for the REAL gems approaches faster by the day.

I would love to see the boys do SOMETHING but what I don't know. What I do know is that we probably don't know what's in the "vaults" only the Stones really know. We can really only surmise.

Sorry Melillo. When someone says "Open the vaults" I undestand it means open the vaults - as in lets release stuff no one has heard before, not even Don Was. Am not talking about the master tapes of some bootleg that has been floating around for 36 years, making our imagination masturbate over something that probably by now has no magic left for it anyway. Open the vaults could mean finding a lost city like atlantis or maybe an album compilation that might cure me of my Stonelesness. I am hungry for a brand new track. Maybe some demos from the mobile studio that no one knows about. Like I said I doubt it very much. But hey unrealeased Beatles tracks are still popping up, so who knows whats still in the Stones can. Am sure Keith has a bunch of tapes from all his closed doors jam sessions all over the world. Yeah I also need a taste. Tell you the truth am kind of fed up and tired of live stones bootlegs or live albums - I guess its part of a cycle because I do love live music. But God Damn I need an awesome track.

[Apart from these finished tracks which could be released "as is", all other material has got to be WORKED ON, and this includes well-known outtakes like Living Is A Harder Love, Fiji Jim, Yellow Cab, Gangsters Maul and the like. Do they want to work on unfinished outtakes to make them releasable? Is Jagger willing to write or finish lyrics for stuff recorded decades ago? I think thats the question at stake.

I dont believe for a minute that they would release promising, but without further work half-assed stuff like Honest Man or DW outtakes like Goin' Back To Memphis.

There is another point I'd like to stress: I think they should not touch with their 'lasvegas' hands anything they have done in their prime days. Those tapes are a part of history now, and I'd hate to hear, say, the Jagger of today to remake the vocals of the tunes recorded some thirty years ago. They are not anymore the same band or a bunch of performers they once were. I think the line goes in 1989. TATTOO YOU kind of album - using the same backing tracks, etc - could be done from the material from STEEL WHEELS sessions on. They are basically the same band and in same level of 'feeling' ever since.

Of course, it is a different thing if they use their vaults as a source of inspiration, and do some new songs based on what they find there - but that doesn't differ from doing any 'regular' new studio album - who cares from where they take the inspiration - listening Robert Johnson records or their own old tapes. Most likely, they have recicled some of their old ideas in every 'new' album. Consciously or unconsciously.

I'm afraid it's the Stones themselves who need to show some respect to the good people on this board;

a) by opening the vaults to the older and infinetly superior material;
b) putting some effort, at the very least, into their last two pathetic live releases.

I wasn´t refering to their latest live outputs,as you know.

A certain term is concerned you used in this context,knowing very well that
there are some (no matter how many) people here having bought,listened and (still)
enjoying LL and SAL (DVD/CD),as I do from time to time !

Calling them "idiots" as you did is the point and not your opinion on these releases ( which have been discussed endlessley here,and I share some,but not all of the arguments against these two)

Pretty lame explanation ,so far.

I don't think Mick Jagger is interested in working on old songs; he perfers to write new songs.

Unfortunately, I was daft enough to buy Live Licks myself, which counts me among all the other idiots who did likewise.

The actual content of this 'product' is bad enough, but by having absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the production of this album, the Stones serve only to insult our intelligence even more.

...and they know that suckers will still buy it, because they 'have to'.

Mick and Keith revisiting the old 'lost' tapes might actually reinvigorate their songwriting/recording process - it will do them good to take time and look back at why and why they were (and still are) great.
