One thing I have noted, is that The Beatles performed in Stadiums on their final two US Tours. Were they first pop act to perform such venues?

Didn't the Stones play stadiums (or at least one) in Singapore on their 1965 tour?

The Beatles performing in stadiums in the States in '65 was a necessity: they really were that much a phenomenon.

Oddly enough, the '66 stadium tour dates didn't sell out. 10,000 empty seats at Shea Stadium, Aug. 23, 1966. Intact, unused '66 Beatles concert tickets are quite common.

That was a consequence of the Lennon "wer'e bigger than Jesus" comments. If there wasn't the outrage, then surely they'd all have sold out
