House bassist for Tamla Motown, slew.

Played on most of the classics in the glory days of that label.

Folks forget Jamerson because he died a long time ago, I think around 1983, and he was a behind the scenes kind of guy! A quiet dynamo! Motown would not have been the same without him, just loved his style! My favorites include:
The OX
John Paul Jones
Paul McCartney
Jack Bruce
Bill Wyman
Tom Hamilton
Ronnie Lane
Roger Glover
Chris Dreja

I know I'm forgetting a few! Oh well, I'll add them if I remember!

Gazza - I know him well thank you. I love most of the old Motown stuff, Much like Duck Dunn was for Stax/Atlantic then.

As i was surfin' on IORR , there's no thread about bassists.

Huh? This topic appears every few months, as well as many other top 10 lists. And usually people confuse 'greatest' with 'their favorite'. Which is why for instance Keith Richards always appears on someone's bassists list.

I think Keith is a fine bassist. One of the few guitarrists who is indeed a good bassplayer. But yes - the lists are always about favorites. Seeing Phil Lesh's name here is humorous to me. He's like the Ramen noodles of Bass.

Bill Wynan
Darryl Jones
Dick Taylor
