Another great song that swings without Bill.

You know I forgot to mention Daryl on the Boston comment. The poor guy gets no credit and he plays well.

Hes adequate but will never replace Bill's touch!IMO

<<Another great song that swings without Bill>>

I've heard some great post-Bill versions. I especially like the Roseland rendition, but swings?...at least not like the few 89-90 version I've listened to. Best live versions are by far the ones by the Barbarians imo.

Well, I have to admit you may have a point there. But then again Darryl Jones is no Stanley Clark!

No, Daryl does not have Bill's touch or the same interaction that Keith, Charlie and Bill had but he is a decent fill in.

Another magical track from Some Girls, with loads of irresistible Keith outlaw charm. Love the high-pitched vocal, love the guitar work, love those lyrics, and Charlie!!! Charlie is possibly the best thing about this track ... man does he swing here!!!

Glorious interplay between Keith, Ronnie and Charlie. A true classic.

This is one of the Stones' best tracks, and will be remembered for decades to come. It was the outlaw's proclamation of his decision to come clean, fess up for his transgressions, and get on with a simpler life.

Agreed! Recently, I played it for the IORR recordings, and it's such a powerful song. Rawness, relief, melancholy, freedom. Many facets indeed.

And it's catchy as hell thumbs up

Somehow I never liked this one. It´s not bad at all, but this terrible voice ruins everything. Keith had better solo spots on Stones-albums before and after that one.

His singing is absolutely awful, anyone can do better than that. If Keith would have been a newcomer and had sent it as a demo recording to a record company, they would had a great laugh before throwing it in the garbage can.

Great song, Keith makes it personal on all the best levels. I have a single with different guitar phrasing that has never made the light of day and don't understand why?? Can't imagine it was played better live than this past tour and his vocals were spot on and strong as Hell in Buffalo!!

Never liked this song. Too Keith-y for me...

Before he wrote ‘Life,’ he wrote ‘Before They Make Me Run.’

You want to love this song because it’s quintessential Keith – the elegantly wasted rock star with his guitar forever tuned to Open G, a little worse for wear but still defiant – but ultimately this early attempt at autobiography only reminds one how hollow his songwriting had become. I mean It’s a good enough song, no doubt, but thin compared to Torn and Frayed, its older cousin. Since he can't help but romanticize his addictions I wish he’d stop writing about himself and instead write another song as good as Gimme Shelter.

And is it just me or do the solos on this and Shattered seem interchangeable?

Do you mean the solo theme in Shattered and the instrumental bridge in BTMMR, perhaps? The solos on the latter is toward the ending.

They are indeed similar. SG is the album of instrumental bridges. When The Whip Comes Down has one, too smiling smiley

Fantabulous observation. Although a fellow poster made basically the same one about 30 minutes ago.

Wow, you really know how to locate stuff in your Stones songs. But yeah, I guess that’s what I meant. Thanks.

It's like Keiths signature song for those/us that remember the Stones-guitarist with missing tooths back in the seventies...sad memory in a way...

You guys are forgetting about "Slipping Away", the 3 songs need to be thought of as the 3 parts of LIFE.

Wonder how many people heard Keith open his mouth to sing this and wandered off for a beer, or buy that t-shirt now?

(And I like the song, but the studio vocals are very weird).

One of the most honest songs the stones ever did.

"There was dancing and drinking when I left town"

an addict's honest assessment of how he was perceived.

...and don't forget Ruby Tuesday. Seeing this list, it really is striking how autobiographical many of Keith's songs are. It would be harder to piece together a similar list of Jagger's, but I think it's all there for him as well. Neither of them get enough credit for their lyrical abilities.
