Keith Richards has revealed that Eric Clapton has a guest spot on the new Rolling Stones record due this fall. The blues-themed disc was recorded in London and helmed by producer Don Was. Keith told Matt Everitt of BBC 6 Music "Eric Clapton dropped by for a couple of numbers and it was like old times down in Richmond." Early in their careers, both the Stones and the Clapton-era Yardbirds performed at Richmond's Crawdaddy Club, run by Giorgio Gomelsky.

Ron Wood previously said the band cut covers of blues standards as well as new original material. Keith confirmed this in his chat with Matt, saying the record features "a lot of Little Walter stuff and quite a lot of Howlin' Wolf but the titles I can't reveal at the moment. I can't quite remember them and I haven't got a list with me (laughs). There's a lot of Chicago blues."

Rolling Stones confirm new blues-inspired album for 2016 (BBC.com April 2016)

The Rolling Stones have confirmed they're working on a new, blues-inspired album for release this year.

"We're actually in the studio in the moment cutting new stuff," Keith Richards told BBC 6 Music.

Guitarist Ronnie Wood added that the band recently "cut 11 songs in two days. Just 'bang' - like that."

"It was a surprise to us. We didn't intend doing it," he told Matt Everitt. "I wish I could play them to you now. I'm so excited about them."

The Rolling Stones haven't released a studio album since 2005's A Bigger Bang, although they wrote two new songs for the 2012 compilation record Grrrr!

Ronnie Wood talking to The Associated Press

Ronnie Wood Confirms Rolling Stones Working on New Album (RollingStone.com April 2016)

The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood has confirmed that the rock legends, who just completed their historic trip to Cuba, are now focusing on the long-awaited follow-up to 2005's A Bigger Bang. In a new interview with The Associated Press, Wood revealed that the band recently spent a few days in the studio, where they recorded some new originals alongside nearly a dozen blues covers.

"We went in to cut some new songs, which we did," Wood said. "But we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues in two days. They are extremely great cover versions of Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter, among other blues people. But they really sound authentic… When we heard them back after not hearing them for a couple of months, we were, 'Who's that? It's you.' It sounded so authentic."
