Quote5strings The 5 strings Zemaitis aka "macabre"guitar and the Ampeg amps like in 75 were not so bad. Yes.That guitar sounded brilliantly on the 1975/76 tours (listen to HTW on Love You Live). Surprisingly, the guitar did not sound that good in 1978 (BS on Some Girls Live In Texas). So it seems that it is not the guitar, but the guitar, the amp and the sound that Keith wanted!

I think Gram Parsons gave him the guitar in 1971 while recording Exile. The neck pickup was replaced before or during the US Tour 1972. Watching the Ladies & Gentlemen concert film, you can see that the guitar has a Humbucker in the neck position. Watching the Montreux rehearsals, you can see it has the original single coil pickup

One of the best songs ever. But there are so many other Songs by Free that are awesome, too. E.G. Fire & Water, Mr. Big, Heavy Load. I immediately will turn on the CD "Fire & Water" or "Free Live" or a best of sampler.

I do not like L&G soundwise.GYYYO Sounds so much better. And so do the recordings from 1971 (Leeds, London Roundhouse & Marquee).

A little bit late, but recently I got the new live CD set by Blackberry Smoke: Homecoming - Live in Atlanta. I´m a big fan of that band, especially on stage. The live CD/DVD Leave A Scar _ Live in North Carolina was spectacular, and so is the new live CD. Southern Rock/Blues/Country/Whatever...And Charlie Starr is a great singer/guitar player and songwriter. For all those who love the Stones

QuoteTestify Quotegotdablouse I remember Ronnie claiming he had taught him to play the guitar after he joined and that's why he was playing all over "Some Girls"...not really sure what to make of this since he's playing some pretty good guitar for Ike & Tina in the GS bonus ! And he was probably playing on "Highway Child" too. It's too bad you can barely

Watch or listen to Atlantic City (or Tokyo or Barcelona or Maxx) and you know how great the music and the shows were. They did not change the set lists that much, but they did not do that earlier also (at least when I saw them in 1982, 1976, 1973).

It is the player and his/her personality and NOT the equipment that makes the sound/music. Or as Keith once said: Gimme any guitar and amp and gimme 5 minutes and it sounds like me. What I want to say: Find yourself a guitar and amp you feel comfortable with. The rest is practising.

IMHO Still Life does not represent the live sound from 1981/82 and Flashpoint does not represent the live sound from 1989/90. So that´s nothing new since the eighties (Love You Live was the last live recording that sounded like the concerts I witnessed. But the official release of Brüssel 73 also sounds different from the boots we all know). I saw the Stones in 1995 and fortunately they did no

Quotetimbernardis QuoteRockingLonestar Keith used a Ampeg/Dan Armstrong Plexi and a Gibson ES for standard Tuning and a Gibson LP Standard and LP Custom for open Tuning. In 1971 he used the Dan Armstrong for open Tuning as well. I don not know when he started doing so. I thought Plexi was only associated with drums, Charlie's drums specifically. Be careful in using that word. plex
