Quotecrholmstrom I posted this on the tour thread but is appropriate here. Seattle has turned into an expensive city & downtown hotels are quite pricey. The show is just south of downtown. If you are trying to save a little money, consider staying by the airport. There is a light rail line that has a stop by the airport. You can take that to the stadium district (Sodo) as there is a station t

Have been following the tours since '06, but still haven't managed to be in the right place at the right time - this time I will! Very exciting,,. roll on Seattle.

Saw them live last night in Tacoma. First time seeing FM. A few scattered thoughts: 1. Reports of Christine McVie's decline have been greatly exaggerated. Her vocals are a little tentative at times (I think a fair comparison is to Paul McCartney's current voice), but she still has some very nice moments on the keys. Reports I'd read made it sound like she just sort of stood ther

Wembley is a better mix, I think. Spike (keyboard player) is too much to the fore in the Hungary show. While Freddie was much better in Hungary, I think Wembley has more of a vibe to it. It's not like he's unlistenable at Wembley, he just doesn't reach for quite as many of the high notes as he does in Hungary.

Quotekeithsman I think if they carry on for much longer there will have to be an intermission. Mick's been having one for decades. They all have one currently, Mick’s is during Keith’s set, everyone elses’ is during the intros.

For the most part I've had good experiences there, but the thing I really wish they'd fix is "more accessible inventory." If, for example, I'd like to try a ES-339, not only are my chances of finding one in store anywhere effectively zero, but if I did happen upon a store which had one, it would be three levels up on a rack, requiring me to trouble a non-existent sales pe

QuoteGaetzi Red Rocks would be a dream come true for fans around the world but it's not uncommon to get snow as late as the end of May. I'd be thrilled if it turned out this was an arena tour. Would also be thrilled if they played Denver and I didn't have to get on an airplane to see the Stones. Given the last Denver gig was in '05, they're definitely due for one, b

Quotekeefriff99 It's just like when Sting performs Synchronicity II...I don't believe the "Yooo-oooo-oowww"s he does are 100% live. They're too consistent and clean to be all him. See also the scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again, on tape since '12.

Quotekeefriff99Is that more or less integrity? Eh...I'm rather ambivalent. Rush is a band that prided itself on technical dexterity, while U2 is more about evoking emotion and mood with their sound. I think if they denied Dallas or Terry's existence then that would be a lack of integrity, but they've always been pretty open about it even if they don't have them on stage. A

QuoteHappy24 QuoteHairball I read on a Led Zeppelin facebook page of all places, that there's been some debate on whether Bono is lip-synching or not this tour. I remember it was mentioned here last tour that he was doing it minimally on maybe one song, but can anyone shed more light on the current situation? There was a debate that he was lip-synching the opening song on the US part of

QuoteStoneageTo each his own, I guess. What I hear is a muffled, muddy sound. A tad better than the PPV, but only so. Ronnie's slide is crystal clear though. As if it was superimposed on top of all. Darryl's base is all over place. You can hardly hear Keith. Charlie's drums has a damped sound. As if he had cotton on his drumsticks. There is no depth, no resonance, no stereo effects

Quotecrholmstrom i was off by a year but close enough. i was at the seattle show that has several songs on this cd. really fantastic night at the winery. the band was "on". Nice - I caught the Denver show a week or so after that, and it was similarly great. I loved I Feel Possessed on that tour. It was also nice, compared to the ‘07 and ‘16 gigs, that it was just the four of them up t

Saw the US leg - was a great show although so far the Euro leg has a much better setlist. The screen setup ensures that pretty much everywhere is a good spot, although I've seen it about half way back on the floor on Edge's side both times, and had a brilliant time.

Quotecrholmstromthe north american tour 2009 (i think) compiliation that came out for record store day when they still did cds is fabulous. 3 cds of incredible songs & performances. & they don't even touch on his solo material! Ah yes - this one. That was a great tour.

Quotecrholmstrom No, I live in Seattle. 1 of my best friends lives in Bristol (England) & got tickets. Jealous. I'm seeing Fleetwood Mac in Seattle next month. I watched a few youtube vids from FM opening night. I thought they sounded pretty good, given its first night. Quotecrholmstrom Wish I could see the short Neil & Liam Finn tour in January. It's a family affair with wife Sharon & other son Elroy in the band. They are playing a cool venue in Bristol. Old church converted to venue, about 600 seats. I'll have to get my Neil fix with the Mac in November. I think the set list looks interesting. Can't wait! Are you in Bristol? Did you ha

I’m torn on this. Neil is my favorite songwriter on earth, and I’d much rather see him doing his own thing. But he’s very clearly having the time of his life up there, and this potentially brings his songs to a wider audience. Most of the things which I find odd about the production itself, though, are the same things which were odd in ‘13-‘15 - i.e. a 5 piece backing band needed to support t

Quotecrholmstrom QuoteDGA35 New batch of cities just announced. Big Western Canada tour with 2 shows in each city. Amex presales start tomorrow so I'll try to get Vancouver tickets. Tacoma Washington, a year from now. Both shows middle of week, a traffic nightmare. Yup. Going to have to find a few Tacoma coffee shops to work “from home” from that day, no chance I’m driving to Tacoma at

QuoteFather Ted QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteFather Ted Ha, slow on the uptake here. Just realised that Love is Strong was never played at Miami! Anyone know why the best single from VL didn't get played for a PPV? Lack of confidence? Could be. The live versions I've heard are not that great tbh. Agreed. The intensity of the recording didn’t come across when they played it. It’

QuoteHappy24Yeap. What is really funny is, that on the Macca board quite often The Rolling Stones are mentioned as an example of a band which mixes it up every night..."he should look at The Stones how to do a setlist!" It’s two slightly different approaches - Paul plays 36+ song sets, so even if he’s playing many warhorses, they’re balanced by a good number of lesser known tracks. O

Saw Arthur Buck’s first gig in Seattle a couple of weeks back. Joseph Arthur gets a bit new age-y for me sometimes, but the tunes are strong, they come across well on stage, and it’s great to see Peter leaping about like he’s 25. Someone should tell the keyboard player he looks ridiculous, though. (No reflection on his playing, mind). The support act on this tour (Line and Circle) are well wor

Would be surprised if they play Sports Authority in Denver. They haven’t played Denver since 1 arena show in 2005, if they didn’t find enough demand for a stadium in ‘05/06, or any appearances at all from ‘12-‘18, it’s difficult to imagine 80,000 Colorado Stones fans suddenly materializing next year.

QuoteChacho Shortest show: Denver Colliseum, Denver, Colorado, USA, Friday, June 16, 1972: About 1 hour, maybe a little more. However, this show was by far the greatest concert of my lifetime, so the number of songs has nothing to do with the quality of the show. Cheapest show: Moby Gym Arena, Fort Collins Colorado, USA, Friday, Nov 7, 1969: Cost about US$6 per ticket, IF I remember correctl

Great stage. And great attempt at paring things back with just the 4 principles and Chuck and Darryl on stage in the beginning. One trend I dislike which started (or I guess resumed from the 70s/80s) with this tour is the announcer. The Steel Wheels-present approach where the background music stops and suddenly the band is on stage is so much more dramatic.

QuotePapo This one is really good, imho. Wonder why it got shelved for almost two decades...? I'm guessing something went wrong in the live recording process. They clearly don't have the multitrack for this (or else they would have mixed it properly ), When it's your latest project you would hesitate to release something imperfect. Now that it's a "From the Vault&quo

The camera "on the stage" (especially as seen during the band intros) is an angle we never really see in Stones concert films, it feels like we're standing up there with them. A fun new perspective.
