The double LP "Steppenwolf Live" is fantastic. I discovered it in my dad's record collection and still play it years later. It's a great album to blast if you're standing around a firepit drinking beer. Larry Byrom was the guitarist on that album and he had such a great tone.

Moonlight Mile is my favorite album-closer, but Crazy Mama is right up there. I love the beautifully weird melodic riff that Ronnie plays during the ending & fade. It always seems to fade out too quickly for me.

I saw them at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, September 29, 1994. It was my first Stones show. Blind Melon was the opening act. I snuck in with a friend who knew the ushers and we stood way in the back. I remember getting excited when Keith played a Les Paul for Satisfaction.

Eddie Kramer discusses this in the Electric Ladyland documentary from several years back (1996?). Part of this clip is played, and Eddie Kramer says something to the effect of "We have a visitor! None other than Brian Jones," and notes that after a few tries, the piano idea was nixed, and that he was given some percussion to play. Mitch Mitchell comments on this in the film as well.

The cover photo was taken the day of his last concert, at the Isle of Fehmarn. Hendrix looks pretty happy in the photos from that day, which is surprising if you know the circumstances. The recordings from that '70 European tour are fascinating.

This show was at the Civic Arena, which is facing almost certain demolition, as the Penguins have moved across the street into the new Consol Energy Center. The Stones also played the Civic Arena in '65 & '66 - I'd love to see pics from those shows, or from the '64 Pittsburgh show at long-gone West View Danceland.
