Funny how all these guys like the Pistols and the Clash claimed they hated the Rolling Stones and all they stood for, and then spent their careers, or what was left of them, emulating them. jb

Kinda OT, but any of you St Louis folks ever go to Vintage Vinyl in University City? My friend Papa Ray owns the place and its a great olde tyme record shop from what I understand. I have never had the chance to check it out. Papa Ray presents and emcees blues shows there locally and otherwise. The store reflects it. If you are from out of town with some hours to kill, I recommend it. If Tom Ray

Yep there is hardly anything truly original, even back then. Lots of cross pollination. Blind Lemon probably plucked it from a Bible verse or Negro spiritual. jb

have to agree with the simplicity of the earlier versions, 69 in particular. Kind of overplaying later but as pointed out, some scorchers later on too. I definitely prefer Taylor to Ronnie on this song but Ronnie pulls it out sometimes too. And gotta agree on the piano there in Passaic 78, so much of the Stones music is piano driven and that is an excellent, if maybe accidental, example of it.

>I regularly get metal recording gear through metal detectors Those kind of public metal detectors are set to only go off on dense metal objects like guns, they let smaller and less dense objects pass without going off. Thats why you can get your recording gear past them, if it were a gun they would go off. jb

I did not know the Stones were ever on EMI. I kind of doubt it actually but sounds like you know more than me so I will concede on that if you insist. Aside from the vinyl degrading with use or age, the problem could also be using a poor master for the pressing and/or using the same worn out stampers as for previous runs. Happened a lot actually, especially being given poor, multi-gen submast

>I heard the same 2 songs digitally and it's the same. Well you may not have heard exactly the same digital version he did, him getting advance copies and all. Other than that, I think you got it right. And someone who presumably knows sound, as Mr Whitlock obviously must, having been involved in recording and engineering, any side drama aside, I tend to believe people like him when th

Quotefrankotero Oh man, really wanted to believe the scathing review by Bobby Whitlock was out of jealousy, anger or something. After playing What Is Life and Wah Wah from the vinyl I have to believe what he said. However, the sound is cleaner and there's lots of separation, totally agree with that. But the guitar and horns have been nearly washed out in some spots. Also, bass and vocals are

Probably, and probably true generally. Though a we've calculated above, they can only be netting around $10,000 per release. That's hardly a cash grab. I think they're doing it to keep e

Was it the first time that a RS record was pressed on coloured vinyl ? SG was orange in 1978 in The Netherlands. And was red in France. Sticker says "quality is
