1203. Re: LSD?
IMHO it's pretty clear Keith can't hear a bloody thing up there during this small stage song. He nods back to the amp/monitor when trying to pick it up from Ronnie, as if to say 'there's nothing coming from it' or 'it's blown' or 'I can't hear it.' Mick's "worried look" is similar to whenever the same has happened in the pa

Gotta back JR up on this one. One song from the album they are 'promoting,' and one debut/never-before played song? Hopefully you all over in Europe will get a few more gems, as jealous as I may be, but the rehearsals showed very little hope of uncharted territory. I really have reservations about hearing their version of Thank You Falettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin which I assume w

It's called the blues folks. There's only so much you can do with so many keys and chords, especially in blues-based music. J

That's definitely some kind of mellotron/keyboard in the left channel, not a second slide guitar. But all that stuff going on in the right channel could easily be two seperate overdubbed slide guitar tracks. Most of us also know that the final released 'take' of the slide track may very well be (and most likely is) a composite of any number of solid takes by Keith, Brian, or

It is a fantastic song, and the 14 takes (mostly instrumental) from the Satanic Boxed sets really show how it developed. It is thoroughly Dylan-esque; inspired, I'm sure, from the thin wild mercury sounds of "Blonde On Blonde"(and if the Stones caught any of Dylan's '66 shows with "Tell Me Mama") Even in 1969 Dylan and B On B still reverberated with Jagger a

I'm a convert to the mellotron on "Factory Girl" too. Such a wierd song when you really listen to the intrumentation. Perhaps 'mandolin' was mis-transcribed from 'mellotron' from some hand-written sourced along the way done up by someone not familiar with the instrument. And maybe Mason played the mandolin-sounding mellotron. Stranger things have happened (e.

There's a mellotron on Exile: Let It Loose. Nicky played it. You can hear it come in after Mick sings the first verse "Who's that woman on your arm?" Fades up, slides out. Same on the next line. J

BTW - I had a conversation with Karnbach today. He read directly from his files - Cooder doesn't play on Beggar's Banquet. All of the dates on Nico's site that are listed in the 68-69 session match what Karnbach read me over the phone. J

I have hundreds of Stones boot cassettes and I'd love to find someone willing to digitize them for me - including trackbreaks at the song beginnings and removal of partial songs that get cut on one side and restarted on the other. And if there's even someone willing to do pitch correction and EQ we can definitely work out a deal. J

So, now Ry Cooder is all over Beggar's Banquet too? Where would the Rolling Stones be without this guy? Some of the websites related to his career also try and link him to Exile On Main St. (And, yes, I know half the album was recorded before anyone stepped foot in the South of France or the decade of the 70s even started). So forget Mick Taylor, it appears that RY COODER is responsibl

Most of the point of all of what I wrote above: 1. Keith was playing/recording songs in open tunings before ever playing with Ry Cooder in the studio. And not just slide tunes. Examples: Prodigal Son, Jumping Jack Flash. So Ry certainly didn't tell him that. Nobody is saying the Stones 'invented' open tunings. They were used by blues musicians and guitar players dating back to t

Most bands use them these days. Notice the little earphones in many performers ears? Helps everyone stay in sync. I'd guess they are also used for the small stage sets when the band has to deal with severe echo/delay issues. J

Well, let's see re. Mick Taylor: The electric/single version is in open G tuning (obviously Keith), which is on the right channel and is pretty much the only guitar heard in the song until a few licks before the chorus as mentioned in another post, and then the solo along with the horns. Those licks, and that solo, are Taylor -- who continues to riff on the melody during the trademark Sto

It's WORCESTER. I grew up there and was too young to go to the show. IDIOT WIND I hope you can back that claim up because none of my sources have ever heard of a trace of that tape existing. And I've seen and heard plenty from them that most people don't even know happened or exist. That doesn't mean one didn't get made. J

Pats beat the Saints in the Super Bowl. The NFC is a joke, and no one wants to face New England in the playoffs period. Especially rookie QBs. Asante will clip the kids wings for sure and what was that about the Pats defense against the run? As for offense, betting against Brady is ludicrous. If Harrison isn't back for SD, he'll be there for the 'can't win the big on
