Great reading! Some info also (at least for me): surely it wasn't Bill's idea of cutting Bill out of the cover of RARITIES. It looks like the there are two entities existing nowadays: the big family of The Stones and Bill is a member of that and always will be, and then the business corporation of which the band is the outfront and of which Bill is totally seperated from. Somehow I

I think there is some personal touch in the following lines: "You can scandalize me, scorn my name You can steal my money and that don't mean a doggone thing" Who can use a phrases like "scandalize me, scorn my name" than an egoist rock star? The whole song - with all that anger and rough attitude - sounds like a serious thread if it is directed for mrs. Jagge

I would say it's IT'S ONLY ROCK'N'ROLL. It is the most mediocre, uninspired and repitative of their wonderful 70's stuff. The band sounds a bit tired and forced, and the album lacks a kind of own personality (like their post-STEEL WHEELS albums) For example, GOAT'S HEAD SOAP has its own unique relaxed, sophisticated (un-exiled) atmosphere, and BLACK & BLUE sounds

"Start Me Up" in 1981 got me to get the album TATTOO YOU, and then the whole album really turned me on, especially "Little T&A" and "Waitin' On A Friend". Before that I was awere of some of their older big hits, and I remember especially liking "Paint It Black", but the brand new "Start Me Up" was the song that made the real impressio

Yeah, as far the original/cover distinction is concerned, some of their 'covers' are in fact much original, inspirational and creative than some of their technically own compositions. Mentioned "I Wanna Be YOur Man" is a horrible song - a melody from a children song or something with naive lyrics (The Beatles version really shows that, plus Dylan's make fun of it), but th

Well, I think SHE'S THE BOSS is much more exciting and listenable album nowadays than DIRTY WORK, namely, there are better songs in it, and both PRIMITIVE COOL and TALK IS CHEAP are way much better than STEEL WHEELS that sounds more like a easy compromise without the real spark of the Twins. To be honest, I have always loved PRIMITIVE COOL. Never mind its horrible 80's production, it

with ssoul, I don't think the question is of "blaming" the band of being a pop band, but more like being described in the terms of its own era. The idea of rock music as a bit more 'serious' musical genre than just 'pure' pop to be made for screaming teenagers was just about to be born during those days. Of course, musically The Stones were a dirty blues ban

Interesting that so many people find "Love Is Strong" such a remarkable song. Maybe because of being the first single of the album and the video? I really loved the song when it came out - it sounded so archaic 'real' Stones, with the harmonica and all, but I think the time has not has not been kind to it. It is not very interesing composition, the production is perhaps a bit

Interesting read, and very Brian-friendly. Thanks His Majesty for providing it. Nice to read something about him that is not just repeating the stories of his drug habits, women beating, etc. Brian still is a mysterious guy, and very difficult to form a sound opinion about. With all that flirting with exotic instruments (starting from slide), film scoring, world music experiments, the drive for

As far as I know THE STONES and SYMPHONY FOR THE DEVIL are the same book just with different titles. It has been re-writed few times - but that only means that the first chapter of the book is changed to cover the latest big Stones tour - as a report of that, after which the real story - which remains untouchable - begins. We Finns are quite familiar with this book since it is used to be the

Here Steve is practising the Stones stuff: - Doxa P.S. If I recall right, I think Steve is doing exactly the same parts (guitar & back voc) as Keith when he recorded this song with Alexis Korner. P.S.2 More Stones connection: there has been rumours circulating that when Brian left the Stones he might have joined to Humble Pie that was founded about the same time (and having a rec

It is sensational. I once spotted them, Taylor and Wyman's band, in Pistoia blues festival few years ago, and wished that they could do some numbers together. Which they did not. First played Taylor - a short, horrible set - and then Wyman's band with a long good set which unfortunately suffered from soundcheck problems. The night was fulfilled by the great late IKE TURNER, by the w

Be careful with that vodka. Look what happened to Keith Richards last time: after visiting Russian he was so drunk to fell down on his butt in their next gig in Helsinki (in fact, he is not the first person to come from Russian in that condition: ask Finns, there is a whole subculture called 'vodka tourism'). But it is goddamn fine vodka. Yes it is. - Doxa

"The Plot Thickens"... Seriously, what about sticking to to the system as it already is, that is, natural selection. But there is one thing I have wanted to suggest for a long time. That is, gathering the experiences of forum members from the concerts prior the existence of IORR, especially from the 'old days' (60's/70's). I have read some superb recollections
