I am doing a freelance job at the BBC today and managed to just miss seeing a dvd being dubbed called, wait for it 'Exile On Main Street cut 31 V2'! My colleague did the job but didn't monitor it so couldn't tell me what was on it. I tried my luck and phoned the production person on the jobsheet & asked if I could borrow a copy to watch. She was very friendly and said

Wow, truly exciting stuff. I've seen a minute or so of footage backstage at the Palladium but never anything from Brian's pad. How long is the footage His Majesty?

No. 2 is the weakest. The one full of half-arsed pretentious twaddle is the best.

Memo Fom turner - Performance without a doubt IMO but also, You Got the Silver in Zabriskie Point which just goes so well with the jaded melancholic vistas of Death Valley.

Fantastic debut album. Raw, rootsy, passionate and all recorded in one day I believe!

Look out for the 'proper' Charlie (never officially released but fairly widely available) with all the original Stones music. It's excellent.

I would have thought the people of Haiti could benefit more from prayer at this time than the Stones (if it worked!)

The blackest day in Mick's history, well alongside the release date of 'Primitive Cool'.

That's a pretty vague list of contents. I imagine that with sssoul is right about stuff from Charlie Is My Darling: the tour of Ireland covered in that was actually '65 rather than '64 but that sort of inaccuracy is par for the course. The World In Action has been widely available for donkey's years. Keith from the Berlin Film Festival I would guess is from last year when Shin

This sounded straight though compared to the version by The Residents from around the same time which sounded like it had been recorded on Mars.

"As for Mick Jagger, was he just a cocaine user? I have never heard about Jagger taking anything other than coke" He's done speed, weed, acid, mushrooms, coke & downers that I know about.

Perhaps it's a tribute to the one-off under-rehearsed Hyde park show, before a proper US tour...

Makes a bit of a nonsense of MT's claim that he had to leave the Stones as the smack was killing him then...

I was just going to mention Revelations. Arthur Lee told me in '92 that Jagger & Richards came to see them live in '65 or '66 when they were already doing an early version of it and ripped them off. I didn't believe a word of it. Much as I love Arthur Lee's work he was a pretty flaky, paranoid and somewhat bitter dude, claiming everyone owed them money.

Could be: Montreux '72, the 30 min rehearsals shown on OGWT L & G outtakes: Happy, All Down The Line, Midnight Rambler already in circulation but may be loads more Jumpin' Jack Flash from Montreal '72 (shown on Canadian tv) Brown Sugar & Streetfjghting Man from NYC '72 (from the Dick Cavett show)

Fantastic song. Sloppy but tight. Oozing with sex. Love the way the pace builds then slows, almost foreshadowing 'Heroin'. People say Aftermath pales next to Revolver but to me the whole of Revolver pales next to this epic (ok excepting Tomorrow Never Knows).

"Exile is my favorite Stones record because it all sounds exactly the same. Even though very little of it was actually recorded in the crappy basement at Nellcote, it all sounds like it was. LIB & SF are all over the place stylistically and, while they're great albums, it's not as consistent a trip as Exile is." This is one of the main reasons why I think LIB is a far bet

It is a paradox him saying that with what sounds like real passion and yet, in reality churning out, with 2 or 3 exceptions, a hits show. (At the Beacon there wasn't even one single new track!). I wish someone close to Mick had quoted him back at himself.

I agree that it is overrated though still a great album. I think Beggars & Let It Bleed & Sticky Fingers piss all over it. I actually prefer Satanic Majesties too but I recognise that will appear a little left field to some...

It is a real shock if Klein genuinely did care enough about Brian (who I believe he referred to as "that little shit") to instigate this report, but... No one other than Cutler seems to have seen this report, if indeed it really exists. As well as the wild theories swirling around that Mick & Keith were implicated, are the, IMO more credible, theories that Klein was implicated. P
