Quote71Tele The dueling Richards/Taylor solos on the Ya Yas SFTD may be the strongest performance from not only the Stones, but from any band captured on tape. YES! and why a 69 "bootleg" release would be so cool.

Winter a space filler? It's an unbelieveably great song just as Memory Motel is. It's one of the main reasons to listen to GHS.

Quotefranzk Hate to be the one who starts it but the sooner we get over it the better. The hypothetical (but very probable setlist) for the upcoming shows is as follows: 1. Start Me Up 2. You Got Me Rocking 3. Let's Spend The Night Together 4. Gloom And Doom 5. Angie 6. Miss You 7. Tumbling Dice 8. Slipping Away 9. The Worst 10. Honky Tonk Women 11. It's Only Rock And Ro

Quotenomis Doxa, I think I agree 100%. As long as the analysis starts with Emotional Rescue and doesn't include anything before that because I like Goats Head Soup, IORR, and B&B too much.

QuoteDuane in Houston ONLY Mick Taylor ( and Bill Wyman ) can save this impending musical trainwreck. Otherwise no one will even care or notice these few shows. that's my thinking as well.

DVD? I didn't see any mention of that. Now if it contained the entire concerts on DVD... well, it might tempt me more, but still way too much dough.

Went to the Rockford, IL show and Cedar Falls, Iowa show. There was a lot of excitement in both places. Rockford because it's a small town and the show was in a small/medium sized arena. Cedar Falls because that's the first time they played in Iowa. The whole state was excited and the Stones were written up on the front page of the Des Moines Register the following day. I recall th

Quotemandu I just watched Mick Taylor do a guitar solo on you cant always get what you want how does he know where to put his fingers and how long he should play the solo for is the solo practised or is the solo done on the spur of the moment? Great question! I watched L&G two nights ago and Some Girls Texas last night and was wondering the same thing. Also wonder how they end songs on c

Quoteleteyer The only song that does it for me is Like a Rolling Stone, I almost like Chuck here. Most of the time I can't stand his plink-plunk. He might be a great piano player and he's done great job with the ABB but this are the Stones and he just doesn't seem to fit. Hey, another song Chuck does well is I'm Free on Stripped.

Chuck doesn't have that swing like Stu did. Nicky was OK, but Stu had a better groove. Billy had a lot of soul in his sound; he was great.

QuoteJustin Muddy is no virtuoso but what he doesn't have in technical verocity he has in a lot of feeling. Those simple note scome off the gutiar with ease because of the rather slow, relaxed attack, his specific sound with just a touch of overdrive for a more crunchy sound and a more "authentic" slice of genuine slide playing. It's refereshing to hear what slide guitar cou

Quotemitchflorida1 under assistant wc promo man? that was a song that was written and recorded at the studio in less than 45 minutes. Wouldn't call it their best . just filler material. Nah, I love it too. Might be filler, but it moves me nevertheless.

I've been listening lately to Brussels with headphones while I ride the bus to work. It's got some pretty spectacular, and sometimes very subtle yet excellent, guitar work. Both guitars are generally audible throughout, as are the keyboards. And there's just something kind of magical about how Taylor works his way around the fretboard, mixing in the slide along with his fingers.

Good post! The Rolling Stones have never been about guitar solos despite the fact that there are many songs that have good guitar solos. The Stones are not even just about the songs themselves. The Rolling Stones are - or were - about the performance; a certain vibe that could rock you if there was a guitar solo or not. A lot of Stones songs, if transcribed to sheet music and given to some loun

One of the main differences with the way they played Sympathy in 69/70 was the riff that Keith played pretty much throughout the song. I haven't listened to the LYL version in many years, since probably 1979, but I recall he only played the riff for a few brief moments. I noticed when they played it in Seattle during the Bigger Bang tour Ron played the riff once, and then smiled at Keith,

Quotestonesdan60 This has been my favorite version of Sympathy ever since Ya Yas was released. I couldn't care less that a verse was edited out. The way they transformed the album version into a guitar driven rocker is brilliant. Keith's partial-chord licks during the intro and verses are sublime. The whole band just cooks. And the way Keith solos and the breaks it down and tosses it to

Yeah, it's a great track, the whole band. It's the sound that orginally hooked me on the Stones. So if it worked for me, there's somthing there. A lot in fact. It's great energy and Taylor's playing is, well, awesome. So is Keith's.

QuoteDoxa My hunch is rather similar to yours. LEEDS 71, The lost album of 1972, and LA FORUM 1975 sound logical choices given the reasons you offered. I think they will include one 'modern era' show just to balance a bit the big picture (and they most probably have a lot of high quality material for that. My guess would be something from NO SECURITY tour. Of course, it is a shame if
