QuoteMelBelli Steel Wheels is mostly Mick (with Keith driving Mixed Emotions, Can’t Be Seen, AHYS, Slipping Away, and probably Break the Spell). Bigger Bang is 90% Mick! Sounds about right, consistent with Mick's comments at the time and with Jimmy Rip's comments last year, it's easier to understand why, i.e. because Mick had an album (with Charlie on drums) pretty much ready

Quotekovach QuoteCooltoplady QuoteMore Hot Rocks QuoteRocky Dijon You missed the key word "back." That’s still not true . The album didn’t even chart in the UK. And only 59 in the States I agree. Not his best work. Never put him back on the map. Never left. Cool cover though. That’s about it It got him back out on tour again, that's more what I was referring to. Yeah but s

Quotedoitywoik Apart from Ronnie, I can't recall any of them talking about the Paris Sessions 2002, nor can I recall Ronnie talking about it in a different place. Someone should ask them if the occasion arises. Maybe Ronnie is more accessible here than Mick or Keith? I'm pretty sure Keith drummed up (as usual) the material too, along the lines of "it's the best stuff we'

QuoteBashlets We probably will never know. As long as the songs are good I will be more than happy. Really don’t care if the origins of something started in 1972. It’s still their song. Well we'll know if there's stuff that was on FFSO, would be <1997, or on the 2002 sessions ;-) With the 100+ songs Mick must have written since it seems pretty unlikely, besides there was no &quo

I still hope we can get to hear some of Jeff's work with the Stones in 1975...Other than "I Love Ladies" (and possibly "Come On Sugar") it's hard to know for sure if he's on any of the material that surfaced. Even what was long thought to be "Freeway Jam" is probably an early version of "Built that Way" that surfaced on FFSO in 2021. Maybe

Hopefully not pre-2015 outtakes since they didn't think they had enough good material to release an album...Technically to be an "outtake" (or rather "unreleased song") it would have to date back to before the latest album, i.e. 2005... Charlie did seem to think they had enough material for a new album since he was surprised it hadn't been released yet during an i

I also saw him with Jennifer Batten, it was at the Warfield in San Francisco in 2001 and it was a bit of a low point in his career. I was delighted to finally get to see him but as some people posted in forums (was it a Jeff Beck forum ?) he'd become a bit of a cult act by that time, struggling to fill theaters. I seem to remember reading an interview by Jennifer Batten saying her goal was t

"bulletproof" ? Not sure about that, when they released a 10 track LP it was every 1 to 2 years vs 8 or 18 (and counting) so inspiration being equal there would be more "fillers" back in the day, except for the "best" albums. As for releasing songs here and there, it would make sense in a way but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Look at Sheryl Crow who s

This one really hits hard, so unexpected, and not only the fans, all his peers seem stunned, Gilmour's hommage is particularly striking : "I am devastated to hear the news of the death of my friend and hero Jeff Beck, whose music has thrilled and inspired me and countless others for so many years. "

Yes, he was still firing on all cylinders (pun intended) only a few weeks ago...we'd mused in the Jeff Beck thread that he was somehow the "Guitar Mick" managing to push through the ravages of time and sounding as good as ever. Even more impressive for a guitarist with all the technicalities involved. It's too early of course but it's going to be difficult for a tribu

Wow that's a big shock and yeah totally unexpected as he was still playing at his best recently. Loved the guy, I was lucky to see him three times, once in 2001 at the Warfield in SF when he'd become some kind of a cult act, at the O2 in 2012 when he came roaring out for "Going Down" and then from the first row at Pleyel in Paris at the end of 2016, that was such a treat. Quotewickerman Too early for the Stones tour to be announced. We will definitely get some teasers beforehand. Big question is whether or not we will new album announcement and single at the same time. Let's hope so if not it's going to be the SOS, i.e. "we'll get together after the tour and work/finish the album" they've trotted out in various incarnations for the

Crazy to think we saw that unfold under our eyes ! I wonder if the B2B launch event wasn't one of the first live streams ever. Remember watching it on my laptop with its PCMCIA 56k (or was it 28.8k ?) modem and being stunned by what I was seeing. I'd think they were using RealVideo at the time. Come 2002 and the "blimp" press conference seemed like something normal ;-) A

Quoteslewan saw them once some 25 years ago. It was good but I don't feel any urge to see them again 10 years ago for me at Bercy and ditto, they don't really have that magic that keeps you wanting to go back again and again like another band we know ;-) Well at least they no longer have it, might have been different when The Ox was still around...

Yeah I don't think UYI has aged that well, unlike Appetite. It's just lacking in memorable tracks and terribly bloated, a bit like Oasis's "Be Here Now". Stuff like "Get in the Ring" might have generated interest at the time but now it's embarrassing TBH and sums up all that had gone wrong with this band.

I remember reading a period interview in an old mag I'd found where Keith claimed he'd wiped all the parts and rerecorded them himself. That single remains a bit of a mystery, whose idea was it ? Was it a Mick/Keith deal after Mick did the Peter Tosh single ?

Quotegotdablouse Quotedoitywoik I remember that when B2B was released, Keith said in interviews they had recorded so much stuff that there would be a follow-up album the following year - which of course never happened. Asking about all that here on IORR several years ago I was told, roughly, that (some of?) these surplus songs ended up on ABB and various singles as b-sides. If anyone has mor
