I have seen him live about 3 or 4 times and he has NEVER failed to raise the roof, off of every single place I've seen him play. Outstanding! He is a real living treasure and puts on an amazing show. So glad you finally got to see him!

This song just popped up on random the other day in my Itunes, and I gave it a fresh listen, a few times, and something occurred to me about it, that may NOT have been discussed. If it has, my apologies! (I don' t remember hearing anything bout this particular theory, in discussions at the time, and I did try the search engine today, briefly.) I agree with those (Mathjis among others

I was shocked in person at how small Starry Night was. I mean, smaller than I thought it would be. Also Salvador Dali - persistence of Memory, dripping clock -- I somehow thought it would be this big dramatic thing filling the wall but it was barely 8 x 11. Amazing stuff. When I lived in NYC they used to have "voluntary admission" at the MoMA on Thursday nights, where they would

Agreed. This has been great to upgrade some old faves and a couple that I had never got around to getting before.

Just out of curiosity...I am interested in what is the BEST sounding version of the famous "Brown Sugar" outtake with Eric Clapton, from an audio perspective. Is there a particular source/version that sounds the BEST, ie lowest generation, least tape hiss, fullest stereo, etc, from an audio perspective? I originally first heard it years ago, on the orange/brown vinyl 12" b

It's been common knowledge for years that one of the main reasons Jones was not included on the tour and albums is because, a million dollars split three ways is a lot less than a million dollars split two ways. Plus Plant's daughter was going out with the bass player that they did use.

The live version of "My Death" is very stripped down and is pretty much one of his greatest moments -- well worth seeking out.

When I had the opportunity to meet Keith, all my vinyl was in storage. So I had to desperately scurry over to Tower that same morning, and all they had was cheap CDs of "It's Only Rock N' Roll" and "Sticky Fingers" on CD, which I bought for him to sign. My good friend actually ran into Keith on the street in New York, in the Village, in the 1980s...and by comple

I am not usually a fan of money digging, but I love that thing that Paul McCartney did recently on tour -- pay extra for the luxury package and you get dinner and a SOUND CHECK! That's just brilliant.

I love it when you get to see the insider shirts and schwag that the band makes just for themselves. Different band, but ZZ Top's old manager once told me that they used to make loads of promotional gear and shirts for themselves, to give away to friends, famioly, crew, employees, etc. and those clothing items were completely different from the stuff they sell to fans. And you are defini

I had also heard the story about the Hells Angels taking the carpet from Altamont but have no idea where I heard it from. It would be interesting to try and track down the truth of it, or at least where the story originated from.

I absolutely LOVE these Bright Midnight releases. I was telling a friend the other day: for most people, the Doors familiar studio recordings stuff IS the Doors, that's what they think of, "Riders On The Storm," "Hello I Love You" etc, and the live stuff is something extra or rare or exotic to them. For me, thanks to the Bright Midnight releases and bootlegs, it is no

I think it's very interesting that Keith is talking about this ambitious creative process he had for this song, and his cutting edge approach to sound, a technique that he all but completely abandoned from 1969 on. When was the last time that Keith Richards thought "outside the box" in this way on a Rolling Stones recording session. When was the last time one of their records had a

Pulling out "Coming Down Again" would have been awesome in a club or a smaller venue, or a "special" show. But in a large arena or stadium concert with a typical Stones audience it would just be considered boring and quiet, and it goes on for too long. It would go right over most fans' heads, it'd bore them and suck too much energy out of the set. Although it is a co

If he was just listening to the Beatles doing vocals, in the booth while they were wearing headphones, I can imagine that would sound pretty awful. It always does. Hearing someone sing solo'd vocals without the music attached to it, while they are listening to the music in headphones, 9 times out of 10 it will sound REALLY terrible, even if it sounds really GOOD with the music underneath it.

I have the "gold disc" CD version of the single-CD Brussells Affair, and that is pretty ridiculously amazing sounding. The sax solo and interplaying jam part in "Can't Always Get What You Want" is just fantastic.... I rate "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'" off Sticky Fingers as a best-sounding candidate, studio-wise. It has so much clarity to it.

Quote24FPS [ In fact there's something unfinished about this song. Mick's vocals sound like they were done, but that the rest of the band didn't quite have the time to work on this track. You can certainly tell it's from the GHS era. To me Bill's bass part sounds like he's just figuring out where he should put things, feeling out what's going to work and what do

I've said this before about other artists (Jerry Lee Lewis is one in particular, who is doing his legacy no favors by touring). These reeeeally old guys like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Glen Campbell, etc., they should charge less money, and put the guy up on a small stage with an interviewer, an expert interviewer, and ask them questions, ask them the RIGHT questions. Tell stories. Give you

I've been enjoying this a lot. Thanks to those who made it available. It is a very "unconventional" show and shows a somewhat different side to the Stones....this sounds to me like they were consciously playing this show for THEMSELVES rather than for pleasing the "audience." Unusual song selections, joking with the audience and each other, taking chances musically....the

QuoteStonesCat It's been a real long time since I read it, but most of this article sounds like it comes from the Playboy Interviews book, where he was interviewed right before his death. They went through every single song the Beatles did, mainly who wrote what, it's not nearly as totally negative as it's made out to sound here. His main beef before his death was with George

QuoteBellajane What is the appeal of Jamaica for musicians who want to get clean. I What do they do in particular? Drink rum all day and sleep on the beach until the withdrawal symptoms subside? That, plus the same principle as the rehab place in Ireland that Ron Wood uses, the one that's in the middle of the Irish countryside. Which is that, you put yourself in a remote place where y

The Kinks "Village Green Preservation Society." I believe Ray Davies himself has said that it didn't sound anything like that when they were in the room actually playing it. It always sounds small and thin to me. Could you imagine it with 1968 drum sounds as good as the White Album or Procul Harum?

Quotevudicus I think the only thing that really affected the live album was the introduction of the home video. Instead of just an audio document, you got to see the show too in the comfort of your own home. The live album was bound to lose some of it's appeal after this. Agreed. I know quite a few younger people, teens and early 20s, who I engage in conversations about music; and when I t

QuoteLongBeachArena72 "Gimme Shelter" is their best studio performance. ^ This by far. The tremelo on the guitar, the percussion, the way it builds up. It's clearly their best moment in the studio. The best SONG song (written) by the Stones as a SONG would probably be, Satisfaction, as it has been covered by many artists in many different genres, eras and styles and it a

It seems to me like they never get the riff right on the live version - it's like a different riff, with fast picking. The studio one is a pocket, the live one is too busy with fast picking.
