The Stones don't go in for this kind of showbiz sentimentality. Thank God.

Here's Art Wood singing "Hoochie Coochie Man" from a live performance in 1998: The only national newspaper to publish an obituary was the Independent; reproduced on the website here: Reading this, I suddenly noticed Art's date of birth: 7th July 1937. "On the seventh day, of the seventh month…"

Richmond & Twickenham Times: From the Richmond Informer: Musical Legend Art Wood Dies Art Wood, the blues singer and brother of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood died on Friday after a six-month battle with cancer. The singer formed the Artwoods in the 60's, a rhythm 'n blues band once tipped for greatness. He also formed a band called Quiet Melon with his brothers Ronnie a

Broadcast last night on BBC Radio 2 and available to listen again here: (click on the programme title) Really gives you a good idea of the kind of cosy pre-Beatles showbiz scene that the Stones erupted into - and just how devastatingly different they would be in both music and attitude. It also makes you realise just how lucky they were to escape the stifling hands of old-style show

If you've got time while you're in Richmond (if you do go there) then walk across Richmond Bridge, turn left along the Thames towpath on the Twickenham side of the river, and follow it along for about a mile until you come to the footbridge to Eel Pie Island. Nothing much to see these days on the Island (the Island Hotel burned down years ago and was replaced by boring modern houses)

This week: In the latest parcel from Amazon were: Gram Parsons: The Complete Reprise Sessions Buried Alive: New Barbarians (sorry, I've never heard the bootleg so I can't make comparisons. But this CD is great) Archie Bronson Outfit: Derdang Derdang. Bought this on the strength of a newspaper review and I love it: I've seen it described as "psychedelic punk folk-rock&q

Inside Out is a sort of umbrella title for a range of local documentary programmes that go out in the 7.30 - 8 slot, and as far as I can see the Brian Jones stuff is only going to be shown in one region (it's BBC Bristol so probably Wales & the West). I'll watch the London Inside Out just in case...

I know ALL about the match today - down my road we've always been used to living with the traffic jams and parking problems for 60,000 Rugby fans - now we've got to see how much worse 82,000 are! Still, having the Stones performing right on my doorstep was a big compensation for living with Twickers all these years. I'm in no hurry to see them going back to Wembley. There wa

So sorry to hear the news about Art Wood. Right up until this summer he was still singing around the Richmond/Twickenham area, and he was a much-loved and much-appreciated performer. I was lucky enough to see him twice this year. The first time was at an open-air Music Day in the grounds of Strawberry Hill House, and it was such a memorable day that I tried to write down what it was like aft

Age 13 in 1963, via Radio Luxembourg. I used to cycle to school on an unreliable old second-hand pushbike that was always breaking down, and I can still hear myself, out of breath and late as usual after the chain had come off for the umpteenth time, muttering "I WISH someone would COME along and RUN into it and WRECK it" in time with the pedals... I've found out since that the

Dear Brian, Here's hoping that you really enjoy Van The Man - but also hoping that you find out that what all these Stones maniacs rave about is true - they are every bit as good live as they are reputed to be - and then some! I'm still counting myself incredibly lucky that they are still around for me to find this out at my own first concert in 2006 (and I'm not as young as y
