Yes, Morissey is a fine artist. Just doesn't appeal to my taste at all.

Some people did suggest both Mick and Keith in the early stages of the contest, but they didn't make the cut for the top ten. Maybe because this was specifically a contest for a living British icon? Yes, we all know where they were born, but the Stones these days have a sort of citizens-of-the-world vibe, and their music isn't seen as "typically British" (whatever that i

IN today's Richmond and Twickenham Times: "Two extra concerts could be held at Twickenham Stadium next year after Richmond Council granted planning permission for the events.... ...This takes the total number of concerts permitted in 2007 to five ... At the time of going to press it was believed the RFU were preparing to announce the third artist for next year following the news t

I see the Sun is living up to its usual standards of accuracy. That bike picture has been around for months (since just after the Palm Tree) and was originally reported as being taken somewhere in Connecticut... "In late July (1989) Keith took the pre-tour physical. 'The bugger stuck electrodes all over my body, hooked up more monitors to me than the Stones use on stage, and told me

It was a very hot summer in England. Bill was about to become a teenager. Brian and Charlie were at primary school. Mick and Keith were enjoying their last few weeks of freedom before starting school in September (Keith made a big fuss about being parted from his Mum), and Ronnie had just had his third birthday... Summer 1949.

Mine came from Keith's site. I had a look at Amazon UK where there's only record-collectors' copies at Enormous Expense, and decided that if I was going to have to import it from the US I might as well go straight to the source. Arrived in about a fortnight, no problem. Nice interview with Keith about the Wingless Angels project here:

I can't answer The Sicilian's exact question because I just can't imagine that Brian, if he was still with us today, would still be a member of the Stones. As brilliant as he was at so many things (perhaps BECAUSE he could do so many things so easily) he seemed to get bored equally easily and move on to something different. I think he'd have had one of those brilliant-but

According to Marianne Faithfull's autobiography: "...by the spring of 1968 Mick had become restless. He was beginning to feel his role as lead singer of a rock 'n roll band was too confining ... he was casting about for something new. As a culture hero Mick could have become almost anything he wished. For a while, he flirted with the idea of becoming a Labour Member of Parlia

Somebody, somewhere PLEASE persuade the Stones to do the BBC Electric Proms (what the Who were doing) next year! Being the BBC, the money is probably very small potatoes, but either of the venues (Albert Hall or Roundhouse) would provide a wonderful atmosphere.

Play With Fire - that particular combination of beautiful guitar and spiky, cynical lyrics is pure Essence of Rolling Stones... Dancing With Mr. D - the first time I put on Goats Head Soup and heard that opening, I was hooked. Rough Justice - one Amazon reviewer headed his ABB review "Oh yes, it's THEM again!" and I know exactly how he felt.

There has been a lot of fuss going on here this summer over professional musicians not being allowed to bring their instruments in the cabin. If top-flight orchestras have to put their priceless Stradivarius's in the hold or not fly - then they don't fly. I think it may have been relaxed a little by now, but I wouldn't count on being able to hug your guitar all the way, especiall

Glad to find someone else likes the ABB cover picture. Of the CD covers I prefer it to Stripped, where they're just trying that little bit too obviously to look really cool and hard with all the shades and leather, and don't QUITE get away with it IMHO. Yes, the rest of the ABB artwork is a bit of a muddle, but that is one great picture - especially at poster size (which I've got

I never get tired of listening to the earliest stuff and playing the who's-doing-what guessing game: Whose guitar is playing? Now then, THAT's definitely Keith, so THAT other bit must be Brian... Is that Mick or Brian on harp? Stu or someone else on piano or organ? Who's enjoying themselves so much singing the backup "Oh YEAH's" on Tell Me? Who's t

If the question was about musical ability only, there might be more of an argument, but the most IMPORTANT - Stu, - it was because of his presence in the band from the beginning that the Stones became a band in which keyboards were an essential part of the sound, and a keyboard player an indispensable member of the team to this day - because his own enthusiasm and love of the music ad
