Great memories attached with this one. The day it was released, my brother and I had an all night beer drinking/pot smoking/listening session ...from that day on it was ingrained. Miss You was all over the radio that summer, and the entire album would become part of the 'soundtrack of 1978' for me.

As a stickler for details, I noticed there are a few changes/edits between the two. For instance there is no reference to Johnny Depp in the magazine version. And the final sentence has also changed, omitting the word "absolutely": "If Crosseyed Heart is an indication of where a potential new Stones album might one day go, then this is absolutely the kind of record you’d

Never really understood the 'punk' connection to Some Girls as nothing there sounds truly 'punk' to me, nor do I hear anything 'new wave' about it. I do hear the disco influence with Miss You, but otherwise it's good old Stones - R&R (Whip, Lies, Respectable, Shattered, BTMMR), a bit of motown (Imagination), perhaps a bit of blusi-ness (Some Girls), a mi

Interesting I never weighed in on this thread, but nice to see Baboon Bro's name again! Never liked this version, it's seems a bit forced and doesn't have the organic/authentic feel of the original. I guess you can give them credit for trying something different during this period, but... as mentioned above "it brings the album quality down".

Very happy we actually get a Keith solo album! Not really looking forward to another Stones album dominated by Mick, but my ears are open and I would give it an honest listen. I haven't listened to ABB start to finish since it was released, but did surprisingly hear Rain Fall Down on a Santa Barbara radio station the other day! Not really looking forward to another Stones tour in the nea

Quotedmay Jock rock???? Ummm...methinks not. There may have been any number of dumbas* athletically inclined young men and women who identified with Springsteen's sound and words back then, but, I would venture, they just got off on the sound and fury of Springsteen's music and shows back then like a number of us did with the sound and fury of the Stones back in their more youthful days

Quotedadrob these tracks are like some sort of DUb rocker tracks rather than "proper" releases if I can put it that way....All Lee Perry-ed out or something. Hmmm...perhaps this tune can be defined that way, but I don't hear that with the other two (Trouble & Amesia) which seem to be proper/cohesive tunes in the traditional r&r sense.

QuoteLongBeachArena72 QuoteDandelionPowderman The jams (Cross Eyed Heart, Amnesia and Substantial Damage) are very strategically placed on the album. That's interesting ... but who listens to albums as "albums" anymore? It's about songs, no? Individual tracks? I guess, though, that Keith at this stage is not trying to hook new listeners; he's more about selling to peopl

Quoterbk Dickey Betts, "Blue Sky." I mentioned this on page one of this thread, but gave credit to both Duane Allman and Dicky Betts - they both play beautiful leads. Allman Brothers guitarists Duane Allman and Betts alternate playing the song's lead, Allman solo beginning 1:07 in, Betts joining in a shared melody line at 2:28, followed by Betts solo at 2:37.
