Gave the house a good blast this morning in his honour - thanks Chuck. In my simplistic view of music history he was the key influence on both the Stones and the Beatles. Without the Beatles, pop music as we know it wouldn't exist and without the Stones, rock in all the forms we love wouldn't exist. So that's quite an influence we have to thank him for. Let it Rock!

QuoteRockman I know a dozen UK pub bands who could play blues better than this, including most of the tribute bands. Heard it all before a million times .... Hey Rockeeee you gotta go see this band they're just like the Stones ... You'll love 'em ... I'm trying not to hate - so I'm interpreting this thread as meaning music that I ought to like (because of its proximity to music that I do like) but inexplicably I don't get. As opposed to music that I wouldn't expect me to like (wrong genre, too obvious). So here goes: U2 AC/DC Genesis PhilCollins Rod Stewart Elton John Billy Joel Macca (solo) Bryan Adams Ryan Ad

QuoteSilver Dagger I'm seeing a lot of songs here by American artists that aren't what I'd consider rock songs - the rock'n'roll cats, Simon & Garfunkel, Dick Dale, Everly Brothers, Mamas and Papas, The Supremes, James Brown etc - are these rock songs? Perhaps the thread should be re-titled 12 Biggest American pop songs? Anyway, for what it's worth here are

Quoterbk I finally saw this last night and loved it. I figured it would just be the same old thing with a touch of South American flavor but they brought some new perspectives to the fore. Darryl was on screen for a total of ten seconds and Chuck less than that. It was enjoyable wasn't it. Especially Country Honk of course but also the Rollingas and other fans. I do think they could hav

QuoteRollingFreak I've never understood why people don't like Hours. I'm not a big late era Bowie fan (sorry, you just don't get better than that pre-1975 run), but I LOVE Hours. And here's how stupid it is: I bought it because it had a cool hologram cover. I'm a sucker for that and I hadn't bought a Bowie album in awhile so I tried it out. And I loved it! Thurs

QuoteTitle5Take1 It's great, and Leavell's playing makes me wonder if he was consciously thinking of Ian Stewart. Erratum: The lyrics above are not to Magic Sam's "All of Your Love," but to Buddy Guy's "All Your Love." (The Stones sound to angsty for the lyrics above!) Good spot. Surely this? http://lyrics.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Sam:All_Of_Your_Love

Quotedrewmaster Ok, now we’re talking. Unlike some of the other stuff on BaL, here the Stones take something great and use it to forge something even better: a work of art that completely transcends and outshines the original. This is a stunning blues tour-de-force, a hypnotic guitar drone that just sends me into the stratosphere. Jagger’s vocals are utterly mesmerizing, as he howls and moans

QuoteHMS QuoteJumpinJimF We should make a list: Bowie: Never Let Me Down and Tonight Clapton: Behind The Sun Stones: Dirty Work etc... Bowie´s Never Let Me Down & Tonight are great albums that can be found very often in my CD-player. NLMD has a bit too much keyboards on it, yes - but it also has Peter Frampton and a lot of very good Bowie-songs. Tonight is completely underrated,

The songs at least are pretty strong, the main problem is the 80s production and sound which ruined many an album in that decade. Quadrophenia on the other hand is sublime... +1 We should make a list:
