Stuff and nonsense. Largely because there's no Hawkwind Space Ritual here - or the great Love You Live.

There's a strong thread running between the 70s and the 90s, esp as the 70s returned to influence the latter decade after the shiny-floor 1980s that dropped the previous decade in the bin, but the rise of smart handheld media in the mid 2000s, along with social media, cuts off this decade and much of the 2010s, from anything that happened before in human societies. Plus the 90s and early nou

Wonder where and when that Ronnie and Weller pic was taken. It can't be in the UK, we haven't seen a blue sky like that for days, weeks, months! The country's Summer download stalled sometime in March and we're going straight into autumn, it seems ....

Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None was originally titled Ten Little N-word (though never in the US) - presumably based on the older counting rhymes, which were probably obsolete by the time it was published in 1939. The British title only changed in 1985. Ten Little Indians is an alternative to those number rhymes. I'd guess the lyrical inspiration was from there, more than the

I've watched most of the episodes now, and a lot of it is really great. Just reviewed it for The Arts Desk - link below - I'd say it has two flaws - almost completely American-based, when the UK scene was central to the music culture of 71, and perhaps making too much of the links between social issues and the music. The music was bigger than the contexts, and gave its fans transport ou

Anything Jagger has sung in a cod-Jamaican accent pales against Sting and The Police's unbeatable Wackin on de Mon.... The major issue with finger-wagging, call-out pieces like this is their appalling literalism. Jagger sang *this* about *that* so he/The Stones must be *this*. It's a formulae of stupid that is near universal as clickbait. One thinks of a shit that won't flush. J

It's not particularly well written, it's too obtuse and that is revealed from the writer's opening salvo against Brown Sugar - 'despite its clumsy lyrics and blatant fetishization of Black women'- when in fact the lyrics are not in the least clumsy, and the 'fetishization' is not simply of 'black women' but of sex, smack, sado masochism, cunnilungus, p

FANTASTIC series. Jenna Coleman, what an actor! The Stones songs perfectly bookended the series, I thought.

That racist idiocy from a thick-as-a-brick, self-regarding @#$%& vicar forces us to remember the utter stupidity of most of the clergy. The Spanish republicans had it about right.

Indeed. Ugly and ignorant sexist crap. She's made some seriously great albums, that's beyond argument. As for'WorriedAboutYou' what has he ever done but breathe in, breathe out, defecate? Better to keep it all in, if that's what he comes out with.

It's a really great series. I'm just done with episode 4, and that has a fantastic montage with Harry Nilsson's Jump into the Fire, which sounds so New Wave-punky to my ears, but released in 71. Fingerprint File indeed sounds fantastic and works brilliantly.

Soem of the nineties stuff is excellent, but it's the Robert Calvert related albums with Lemmy that are really out there. I liked them so much I managed to align the stars to make a documentary about the band ... It's a great band story from a strange weird time. There's a new book about it all from Joe Banks, Hawkwind: Days of the Underground - Radical Escapism in the Age Of P

ROugh and Ready is one of Bob's amazing albums - up there with the best, a work of magic, mystery and imagination, unprecedented in what it does and how Bob weaves his own myths, the ones pinned on him and the ones used by him into the larger folklore he's always drawn from, and for me, the subdued breathing of the music, yes it is pretty simple, but for for good reason, is the perfect

19 June 2018. My first Stones show. Hope to God it will not be the last. I reviewed it for The arts Desk - the only review of what MAY be their last show in the UK, I believe. Sat with my bro in law in the otherwise empty press seats, while my daughter was engaged that morning to work hospitality at one of the VIP 'boxes' and saw the whole show, and loved it too (she'd not been lon

I thought it as great, Keith stroking a few underlay punctuation parts, Charlie air drumming. Mick n Ronnie brilliant. The hate here for Keith is - I dunno, look to the condition of your own lives, and stop projecting onto Keith. So he didn't windmill his arm over a strat. So what - he was deep in his own sense of time. It was lovely. Let's hope they walk onto a real-life stage again....
