I don't mind the criticism but this guy is too much into himself. He should have edited himself down to 5 minutes to make the point. Which wasn't that convincing anyway...

I saw the Rolling Stones in Gothenburg in 1990 (Eriksberg) and 1998 (Nya Ullevi). A nice town. I think Team USA will win this year. I see Sweden and, of course, Canada as runner ups. Maybe Finland too - but they started with two losses. Sweden will meet Germany tonight and Canada tomorrow. It will be interesting to watch.

The strange thing about choosing Darryl is that he's not a rock and roll bass player - he's a funk/jazz/fusion bass player. I think Charlie made a mistake there. When Bill quit some of the roll in rock and roll quit too. I don't think Darryl benefited from it either - other than financially...

I count their artistic longevity from the mid sixties to the to the late seventies though. About 15 years. Longer than most bands anyway. From then on they have been able to capitalize on that. That's how I see it. 15 years of sowing, 43 years of harvesting.

I say, I'm really enjoying the Hackney Diamonds live songs. I really like the sound mix. I guess there are quite some editing work on it but I don't mind - it sounds good in my speakers/headphones. Even Tumbling Dice sounds fresh - which it hasn't for decades live.

Jag önskar er alla en god jul och ett gott nytt år! Det har varit ett bra år för Stonesfans med en ny skiva och en ny turné på dagordningen. Inte illa!

At least we have an album to discuss. Who would have thought that after such a long time? And, all in all, I would say the album is better than expected.

...and the 8-15 minutes versions aren't really arrangements, I wouldn't mind that, they just drag on forever.

You're right, Exilstones. But they should have thought about that long ago. By now it doesn't matter. You have to remember they are 80 years old now. It's a miracle that they are on stage at all. Just play something and everyone will be happy.

Why this huge concern about sales numbers? It seems like almost every post is about that. Is it that important?

If it's staged this 25 seconds clip must be a part of a longer sequence surely? Otherwise it doesn't make sense...

The Stones have never been hip in in indie/shoegazer/britpop circles. So to criticize them is not a big deal there. There is some class politics involved here also.

This generation A-Z doesn't make sense to me. It's time (and circumstances) that is changing. Nothing else. We're all the same.

QuoteGasLightStreet Quotetreaclefingers QuoteStoneage Having listened through the album a couple of times I still wouldn't rank it higher than any album before 1983 (with an exception for TSMR). But it's maybe the best post 1983 album. Still I'm happy that they finally released a new album after such a long wait. So you've listened to it twice since it's release? Y

Who cares? It's just an opinion. And he is right about the album name - it's very far fetched.

Maybe 3-4 new songs in the tour start which usually goes down to 1-2 while the tour progress. But this is a really short tour so who knows? In the end it comes down to Richards' abilities and Jagger's patience.

The Stones has a massive promotion apparatus. When that slows in, sales slows in. Then you depend solely on having radio or streaming hits to keep up the sales.

I think after 100 pages we can reach some kind of unanimous decision on the quality of this album. Until then the hyperbole will rule. Seems like a Newton law on fan sites. In the meantime Beatles is getting more airplay than the Stones. At least here in Sweden.

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteStoneage Believe or not: There is still competition between the Beatles and the Stones. "Now and Then" is on heavy rotation on my radio station now. Maybe even more so than "Mess it Up" which also gets a lot of radio play. I think that's really cool...the fact that your radio station is even playing these cuts. The UK? I know I won't ev

Mess It Up gets a lot of airtime here on SR (the Swedish BBC...). Not on commercial stations though. It takes Jagger's unmistakable voice to recognize it's a Stones song though. But, as said, very radio-friendly.

On here is the usual hyperbole when they release an album (solo or group). Sales? Sales will drop when advertising drops. They go together. Then it's up to the quality of the songs on the album. So we have to wait and see...

Mess It Up has got radio time now. Maybe it's the third single? Anyway, the Lady Gaga soul number is still number one for me. I have noticed another thing though: There is no obvious hit single on it. But by now it doesn't matter I guess. There are too few tours left to make it warhorse status anyway.

Whatever, Fallon is good PR for them. He's a fan more than a journalist. They have nothing to fear from him and can relax. And his show has a good reach too.

Naomi Klein was right: We live in a Logo world. The Rolling Stones, FC Barcelona and Spotify are just a few examples of that. Nothing new there.
