Should be rechristened the “Popular Music Hall of Fame”. They have insisted on several inductions a year and have pretty much run out of worthy acts. Mariah Carey??? That ain’t Rock n roll. R&R isn’t what it used to be and it’s unlikely it ever will be again. The kids today don’t get it.

Awards shows are a joke. I don't watch them, and I don't care who wins.

QuoteSpud I've never had much interest in this timings stuff, but are most differences due to how quickly the track is faded out ? Now that's something that has often frustrated me. Tracks faded out with the band still in full glorious flow , leaving us to wish that they'd let us hear a little more. I wish the outro to Sway went on for a few more minutes.

Lazarus, Dollar Days and I Can’t Give Everything Away are standouts. Overall, it’s a great listen from start to finish.

Anyone know when the next installment of the era box sets is due to be released? I’m a big fan of his late career material. Heathen, The Next Day, Black Star.

The Springsteen records since Ghost of Tom Joad have been underwhelming to say the least. I do like Western Stars. And the Rising has many fine moments as well. Magic had a couple decent tracks. I think the 8 minute song you are referring to is “Outlaw Pete”, which was expansive but also terrible. The rest of that record is unlistenable. (I meant to quote an earlier post, which is why t

Not surprised that he covered LC in MTL, but am surprised that he passed on two opportunities to cover a Gordon Lightfoot song at the house that Gord built - Massey Hall.

Quote2120Joe I saw a Dylan show about two weeks ago, Sun Oct 8, in Chicago. He and the band sounded as good as ever. Very talented group. I’m sure if you are a Dylan fan you would have loved the show. I love some Dylan songs but he did not play any that I knew and those songs I do know such as Multitudes was played in an unrecognizable way. The venue stopped selling beer a half hour after the s

Was at the show in Rochester, NY last night. Fantastic stuff. Nine of the eighteen songs played were from Rough & Rowdy Ways (there are 10 tracks on the LP) and they were all played wonderfully, in particular "My Own Version of You", "False Prophet" and "Key West". He also performed "Stella Blue", and a handful of album tracks from his canon. Cell

It will take weeks, maybe months, maybe longer for me to decide what I think of this release. As an older fan, I don't like modern production values and haven't liked modern production since 1981 probably. Occasionally I've taken to a Stones original post '81. "Undercover of the Night" is very 1983 but I love it. "Saint of Me" is late '90s but I li

I’ll give it some time, but I don’t anticipate liking this any more or less than Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Bigger Bang etc. The only long players I consider worth spinning in their entirety since 1981 are Talk is Cheap & Main Offender. Every other Stones release has tracks I like enough to listen to on the radio or ones I might even add to playlists today or mixed tapes back in the

I haven't see the My Life as a Rolling Stone documentaries. Are they available on any of the streaming services in Canada? To date, my favourite Stones doc is Gimme Shelter. One of my favourite rock docs is the 4 hour+ Runnin Down a Dream about TP & H. Crossfire Hurricane was decent, but I felt like it could have been more than doubled in length. What I would really love to

I was lucky enough to see JB & the Coral Reefers live 11 times over the course of the last 30 years. Of course, I was very lubricated each time. But what I can recall were just fantastically fun times. He was certainly a crowd pleaser. I don't listen to his music much anymore, but there are some great songs in his catalog including "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home" which I hav

The pace of their playing doesn’t bother me much. But I always gravitated to Jerry’s slow burners such as Sugaree, Standing on the Moon and Ship of Fools.

Agree 100%. I feel the same way about the Eagles without Glen Frey, the Stones without Charlie and the Dead without Garcia.

Friends of mine are going to see the Violent Femmes in Toronto in October. I’m not a fan, but thought about going just for the night out. Until I looked into ticket prices. $150 USD is the cheapest ticket I can find and most seats are going for $200+. For a band that I vaguely remember for a couple silly 1980s songs. Good for them if they can draw a crowd at those prices. Hard pass fo

I listened to the broadcast from Cornell on the 8th and I don’t think they could have sounded any better. If you’re a Dead fan, there is a lot to like. John Mayer has some serious chops on lead guitar and whoever they got on piano was fantastic. I’m of the opinion that Bob Weir’s vocals are better than ever. As a young man I think he was trying too hard and he has stopped with the grunting

The last concert I attended was a small one in Buffalo, NY. Melvin Seals, former keyboardist in the Jerry Garcia Band. March 10, 2020. A day or so later the world as we knew it began to grind to a halt. Between 1989 and 2020 I attended 150+ concerts. The Stones 17 times. Bob Dylan 19 times. Springsteen 12 times. Saw David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Jackson Browne, The Who, The Gra

Quotetommycharles I hope there’s a 2001-present box to round out the Bowie archive releases. We’ve had everything through Toy, but a set with Heathen/Reality/Next Day/Blackstar plus a couple of live shows would be a perfect conclusion. I can't imagine that such a set wouldn't be forthcoming.

QuoteTopi No, I meant Backstreets' discussion forum, the Backstreets Ticket Exchange (BTX). It's still active. Lots of tickets were for sale on there for last night's show and for tomorrow as well. Did not know that BTX was still running. Thanks.

QuoteTopi I'd say keep checking back on TM for drops. Box office on show day might be an option, I know people who scored MSG that way. Also, check out fan sites such as Backstreets, Greasy Lake and Stone Pony London. Finally, resellers on secondary sites will lower their prices closer to showtime. Good luck! FYI...Backstreets is defunct. After 43 years of publishing in one for

Quoteroryfaninva "Unhalfbricking" and "Liege and Lief" should be in every music lovers collection. Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson were awesome together.... I have both those records, but haven’t played them in 15 years or so. I’m going to spin them both soon. Thanks for reminding me!
