I've seen him a few times over the years. 1991 on the Rhythm of the Saints tour which was spectacular. 1999 with Bob Dylan (missed most of Paul due to horrible Illinois traffic but saw the two of them do three songs together). 2006 2017 I'd love to see him again, if only to hear "Hearts and Bones" again. One of my favorite Simon songs. Or on the wing and prayer that h

Picked up my copy today. It's beautifully done, as with most all of the entries that I've come across in the Criterion Collection. This is my 4th time buying it! First on VHS, then DVD, then Blu-ray and now this Blu-ray / 4K edition.

Not chronological, nor autobiographical (though the movie 'High Fidelity' makes a fun case for it). I do it by favorites. Rolling Stones at the top of the shelf followed by band solo albums. Then organized down from there by association. Faces and Jeff Beck Group next to Stones, etc. Indie sections, classic rock sections, jazz, blues, etc...but not chronological even within the vario

I liked it a lot more at the time of its release than I do now. It hasn't aged well in my opinion. As another poster wrote, it was a great time to be a fan and it was a time of great touring...'97-'99', but I rarely ever listen to Babylon anymore. Or Voodoo for that matter. If anything from that era I listen to Stripped and even that is pretty rarely. Generally I skip from Ste

Very sad to read this. I never knew Gazza, though as with so many on this forum I feel in a way like I did know him through love of music and all things Stones. Thanks be to Gazza. Love to all his family and friends during this time.

22 times from 1989-2019. I've seen them standing room only in a ballroom, in the 5th row of a stadium, in the nosebleeds of an arena and lots of good seats in between. Since becoming a fan at age 15, this current tour is the first that I've skipped. I always thought I'd retire them but they've retired me. Amazing that they are continuing and I'm enjoying tracking t

I've never done a proper "pit" per se, but I was just a couple rows back at the Aragon Ballroom in 2002 and I suspect I'll never outdo that. Agreed that the sound is good in GA, depending on where you stand, and there's a kind of communal atmosphere of its own in GA though I suppose different from the communal atmosphere of the pit.

I think "Tell Me Straight" would be an energy killer in a stadium environment, much like "The Worst" was a bit, though I like both songs. Something like "You Got The Silver" has just enough energy combined with the pulling the heartstrings to not drag, whereas "Tell Me Straight" just pulls at the heartstrings, which is great, but better for a smaller venue

QuoteDandelionPowderman I'm with Steve Jordan on Dreamy Skies. He said «this is what I signed up for», and I don't think he meant a Mick solo track The more I listen to Dreamy Skies, the more I love the wonderful guitar playing by Ronnie and Keith. I can agree about the lyrics, that it isn't really interesting to hear again and again how much Mick wants to get away. And nothing

I just listened to it again after months away from it. My first time listening to it this year, in fact. Thought maybe it would hit me differently with some space between listens. I find myself feeling the same way I did last year. I LOVE "Get Close", "Mess It Up" and "Sweet Sounds of Heaven". I really like "Rollin' Stone" for what it represe

Quoteironbelly Quotefloodonthepage I love the cardboard format. The plastic jewel cases (with the breaking/cracking/scratching) are the subpar format for me. Looking forward to getting this soon. Please share your opinion after you'll extract a CD from the middle panel of this sleeve . Ha. I've had some trouble in that regard with other such packages...but (at least so far) I'

Thank you, Bjornulf. I've been reading the online forum since the late 90's (reading about how "Blessed Poison" became 'Bridges to Babylon'!), finally establishing a username in 2012. Thank you so much for all of your hard work over the years. You've truly built an international family. I'll play 'Sticky Fingers' in your honor tonight.

I've listened to HD a few more times since my first post about it (many pages back) and while it remains a lower tier album for me in their overall body of work, its energy is undeniable, IMHO. "Mess it Up" is such a great song, and "Get Close" has grown on me. "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" remains my favorite and still seems as though it was tacked on. The feel a

QuoteBig Al I haven’t contributed very much to the Hackney Diamonds discussion, as I don’t believe I have anything particularly unique to say. I will refrain from offering a full-on review, here, but would like to say that I do think Hackney Diamonds is a relatively strong release. It does seem to me that it’s Andrew Watt’s production, and the overall sound, that the detractors have issue with. I

In related/unrelated thoughts... I think it's interesting that in 2023 we have new Stones AND "new" Beatles. Spaced out by a few weeks, no less. I think about Keith's comments (included in '25 x 5' and elsewhere) about how the Stones and Beatles used to check in on each other's progress so as not to step on each other's new releases. I wonder if tha

My initial response to the album was one of disappointment. Chock it up to "we're harder on the people and things we love". After 10 days of sitting with it I've made my peace with it. Ultimately, I love that it's out there. It's in the lower tier of Stones albums for me but I'm glad that they are still out there mixing it up. Favorites are... Angry Get C

Albums were definitely easier than songs, but this is what I came up with under free flowing consciousness. 1. Sticky Fingers 2. Exile On Main Street 3. Let It Bleed 4. Beggars Banquet 5. Tattoo You 1. Midnight Rambler 2. Jumpin' Jack Flash 3. Loving Cup 4. Can't You Hear Me Knocking 5. Brown Sugar 6. Let It Loose 7. No Expectations 8. Live With Me 9. Gimme Shelter

Holy hell does that clip sound promising! "Angry" comes across to me as more paint by numbers Stones with a few fun flourishes thrown in (and of course that great bass from Keith) but this "Sweet Sounds" clip sounds like it could really be one for the ages in their body of work. We'll see (hear) tomorrow!

I was very excited about 'Bridges' at the time of its release and for many years after, though the excitement has wanned in recent years. It's still the best post-Wyman album though it's no longer far and away the best...just slightly. As was mentioned, the sound and production and (for me some of the songs) haven't held up as well on 'Bridges'. Funny enough, I&
